    Hi

I downloaded spywareguard from major geeks, attempted to update it and an error message came up saying have probably downloaded from a defective link run spywareguard updates to correct this problem. Rebooted computer still wouldn’t update. I ran spybot check found nothing, ran macafee no virus found, tried to open norton got same error message, couldn’t open outlook same error message. Can open IE. Went into add and remove programs same error message. Downloaded spyguard into a separate file, clicked on it, received same error messae. Re-booted in safe mode couldn’t delete it from add and remove program same error message. Help.
I have sent this message to you guys from my work computer, this error occurs on my Dell laptop. I have for an operating system XP. Can anybody out there help me please.

If it is a bad SpywareGuard installation causing the problem, then is can be disabled by using the REG file contained in this post:

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=129398

Download the file, run it and reboot your PC. Effectively that disables the active SG protection. Once you've done that, you should be able to manually clean out any files left over in the SpywareGuard directory.

If that doesn't return your PC to normal, then it may be something else and more information about exactly what is happening, when, and exact error messages, may need to be stepped through, one by one.

I just had the same problem.
I couldn't shut it down and it wouldn't let me uninstall.
I used Sysinternals procXP to kill the process then uninstalled it.

I had installed it with Ashampoo's UnInstaller platinum suite and when that failed to shift it I had to resort to the fix above.
