    SpywareBlaster 4.2 has been released!

Prevent the installation of spyware, malware, and other potentially unwanted software!

    New in this version:
    -Windows 7 support
    -Internet Explorer 8 support
    -K-Meleon support
    -Faster, secure updating worldwide
-Automatic program version upgrade support (for AutoUpdate users)
-Numerous bug fixes, tweaks, and optimizations

This 4.2 release provides enhanced protection, performance, and bug fixes.

    UPDATING OPTIONS IN SPYWAREBLASTER
SpywareBlaster still offers the built-in Check for Updates feature. This feature is completely free and allows you to keep up-to-date by clicking on a button in the SpywareBlaster interface.

SpywareBlaster also offers SpywareBlaster AutoUpdate - a brand-new updating solution. Just set it up, and AutoUpdate will check at every system boot for the latest updates and enable the newest protection (other options are available).

As much as we would like to provide auto-updating functionality for free, costs are simply too great to make it feasible. AutoUpdate functionality is $9.95 (US) per year, which helps to cover the bandwidth costs. The Check for Updates function remains completely free, as does SpywareBlaster. You only need to pay if you wish to have the extra convenience of AutoUpdate.

    SpywareBlaster is freeware.
    Download the latest version here:
    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

System Requirements: Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Vista, 7.

    Enjoy! :D

    Best regards,

    -Javacool

P.S. If you have any problems please don't hesitate to post.

And it works great with other reputable security and privacy applications, including anti-virus, anti-trojan, and even other anti-spyware programs. Upgrading Tips:

To upgrade SpywareBlaster from a previous version you can either:

    (b) Download and install the new version of SpywareBlaster "over-the-top".

Either method should work, but we recommend uninstalling the old version first for completeness.

On my system, I'd disabled protection but forgot to then uninstall 4.1. Got an "access denied" message almost immediately after starting the 4.2 installer, but it worked fine after aborting and uninstalling 4.1 then trying again.

So apparently "over-the-top" won't always work.

(edit) Oops, forget something that wasn't included in your installation notes above. I found that it does "remember" settings from 4.1, so they don't need redone from scratch.

What do you mean? I even got a notice through the software, even if it didn't auto-update as in downloading and installing the new version through the program automatically. This was because I've an auto-update license I guess.

Won't renew till Opera is supported though - mostly did it for fun this first time to test.

    Hi,

It sounds like you're getting an older version of the page. Please try clearing your browser's cache / temporary internet files, and you should then see the 4.2 download information + links. :)

    Best regards,

... and if that doesn't work, I can give you a direct-link for downloading the software anyway. :p (Don't see the reason why you couldn't do right away. :D)

    Hi,

It's still on the to-do list - it just didn't make the cut for this version of SpywareBlaster. :)

To help us out: would those who use Opera mind posting what version they're running? (i.e. Can I assume most of you are using the latest Opera release?)

    Best regards and thanks,

    -Javacool

Yes, which would now be v9.64. I recall it will give you a notice when a new version is out even. Not running the latest v10 Alpha, since... well... it's an Alpha. :D Plus that it would mean two installations. I'm fine with the current final version - v10 can come when it's ready.

    .
Hello! I use the latest version of Opera which is 9.64. By the way, I note "support for IE 8" in the change log for SpywareBlaster 4.2. Does this new version address the slow down problem caused by a long restricted sites list? Is there any way to mitigate this other then to keep the list shorter? Also, does using active-X and Cookie protection have any impact on the browser's start-up performance? Thanks!

At first, thank you for the new version you provided, Javacool.

I want to remind you about two older bug reports, that still appear in version.

Here I had reported about the problem, that limited users cannot make use of the snapshot feature. This problem appears to be still there in version 4.2.

Another bug goes here about a misbehavior of the About-Box. Also this bug is still there in V 4.2. For more clarification: The About-box stays in the foreground, if the system info gets opened. If system info gets closed the about-box seems to get closed too, but in reality it only gets in the background of the main window. If the user does not notice this and simply closes the main window, the about-box gets closed also, so not a big problem; but I think, this should be fixed. I think, closing the about-box if opening system-info would be the best solution.
