spyware/ist bar/updater

    hi guys having some problems with a-hole pop ups and need some help from the experts

    i got a virus through MSN Messenger and immediately swept for bugs and cleared what i thought was the problem.

    now i've got a shortcut icon appearing on my desktop for
    "Sports Interactive betonsports.com"

    also on booting i get a DOS looking window message coming up titled "c:\updater.exe" with an accompanying dialogue box reading...

    accompanied by two buttons "Close" and "Ignore"

    I can't close the box by using task manager or the cross at the top right as it is greyed out and inactive.

    also sometimes a new toolbar called "IST" appears in my browser

    any clues as to what i can do....?

    I'm afraid that since the last time you posted here, we discontinued the HijackThis log analysis service at Wilders. See the following announcement regarding this change:

    Within that post is an image linking over to a site that lists a number of other security forums, some of which still provide that service. If you want your log reviewed, you'll need to pick a site and read their spyware scanning and cleaning (HijackThis posting) guidelines, following all their required steps carefully, and then posting as directed.

    Two of the bigger forums for HijackThis log processing, (meaning they process more log threads each day than many others) are: SpywareInfo.com and CastleCops.com.

    Our policy is now to refer people to these other sites and close any HJT Log posting threads made here.
