I ran Ad-Aware 3 or 4 times in the last four days. The first time it found around 80 things, the next day about 30, and today there was only 3.

The problems I am experiencing are a lot of unknown processes running and the computer is acting very slow. There may be a few viruses, I'm not sure ... Trend was run on this computer and it found one, said it couldn't delete it, and quarantined.

Every time I turn the computer on, it says it has an error loading C:\windows\downloaded program files\bridge.dll; says it can't find the file.

Also, one time Ad-Aware found a couple things it couldn't get rid of, but now it doesn't find them anymore. These files were: C:\windows\system32\omniband.dll, and also C:\windows\twaintec.dll

Here is my HijackThis log file.

    hi jyodis,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe,
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0000607D-D204-42C7-8E46-216055BF9918} - (no file)

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sxbark] C:\WINDOWS\System32\sxbark.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RunDLL] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.dll",Load

    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sxbark.exe
    C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe

Post a new log when you are done, so we can see if everything worked out as planned.
There are some more we can skip at boot, but these are the most certified unnecessary. :)

    Regards,

    Pieter

I did the HijackThis part and clicked Fix, and it did its thing.
However, I could not successfully get into safe mode.

When I restarted in safe mode, it loaded up the screen where I have to hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and type in my password, but my keyboard did not work at all. The mouse worked fine, but nothing on the keyboard worked. I did use the keyboard to hit F8 before Windows started, and select 'Safe Mode' from the list of ways to start up, but after that it stopped working. I tried this twice, but then I just let it start in Normal Mode.

So, I failed to go into Safe Mode and delete
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\sxbark.exe
    C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe

I did run Ad-Aware again, it came up with nothing, and I ran HijackThis again, here is the new logfile.

    Hi jyodis,

It looks as though the files are no longer active so you may be able to reboot them in normal mode if they are still there.

Out of curiosity: does you keyboard require special drivers?

    Regards,

    Pieter

The files were no longer there. Thanks!

I guess my keyboard does have a special driver? In the Start Menu there is a thing called 'Microsoft Keyboard.' Should I uninstall it so that I can start Windows up in Safe Mode? Even though it seems I don't have to do it for now, Safe Mode is an option I should have available.

    !Additional Help!

I am worried that whatwith the non-safe mode mix up we didn't get some things. Or perhaps they are new.

The problem is my memory still seems to be mysteriously used up and my programs run slow. There are processes like "Pop3Trap" and 'somethingsomething"download"' and others running all the time. If I End Process with the Task Manager the computer speeds up again and all is well. They seem to open as other programs, such as IExplorer open. Some of them may be legit, I dunno. I basically want to get rid of anything that will slow me down, except for the actual large programs I use. Thanks! Here is my newest HijackThis log:

Thanks for the link, but it looks like manac.com isn't helping with this one. I tried their process two full times through, and the Pop3Trap thing continues to open and slow me down.

Maybe it's because the file/folder structure wasn't set up how they thought. My Trend Micro folder did not have a PC-cilin 2002 folder, nor even a PC-cilin anything folder. So I looked around for the file they wanted replaced, and it was in the Trend Micro/ Office Scan Client folder ... I followed the rest of the directions through and after a restart it didn't work. So I tried again but no luck.

Hopefully there's something else I could try?

    Also, do you know anything about these: NotifyAlert.exe, type32.exe, point32.exe, support.exe, TmListen.exe, PCMService.exe, NTRtScan.exe, DSentry.exe, hkcmd.exe, MDM.exePccNTMon.exe

They are always jumping on and off, and all told they use up a lot of CPU. Thanks so much.

Very helpful links. Thanks a lot. Freed up a lot of space by closing things I don't need. My keyboard was running an IntelliType Driver that was useless to me and eating CPU use. It looks like I just have to deal with the Pop3Tray problem. Keep closing it.

Thanks a lot for the help.

One last thing, this issue is Microsoft Outlook Express related. On a different computer I have, whenever I open Outlook Express, it does weird things. First off it takes at least a min, sometimes 3, to open up. If Aol Instant Messenger is open, it closes it, sometimes restarting it again after a minute (usually not). If IExplorer is open, sometimes it changes the toolbars around or resizes windows. If other programs are open they may get minimized. It's weird, and it only does it upon opening Outlook Express; if I don't open it, everything is fine. I've tried Virus Scans and whatnot while it's opening, while it is open, after it's been open ... none of the processes running are strange to me, and the virus software never finds anything.

Maybe you have run into this problem before with someone else.

If you know anything about it, I'd appreciate the help. Otherwise I'm just not going to use that program anymore (shrug).
