There doesn't appear to be an update notification or launch anywhere in the UI. There's no "check for update" in the gear pull down.

An update item didn't appear in the gear pull down until I rebooted the system; I use hibernate. As of now, it seems beta update awareness is dependent on user attention after re-starts/boots or posts in developer or public forums.

The update proceeded successfully, no reboot needed.

When there's an update there will be a red dot on the settings icons at the top, then a red dot on "about" after you click on settings." At least that's how it was for me.

Thanks, n8chavez. I think you mean the stetting icon at the top... the gear.

I didn't see a red dot on the gear or any other settings related. Could be because I have Auto-Update disabled (which is what will always be as is for everything I run). Or I updated from msi beta v0.0.1 and some setting escaped the v15.0.1.480b uninstall-install exe. Or... oh, skip it. :)

However, that setting should not interfere with in-app and/or desktop notifications of an available update. That said, it's a beta. No complaints...

    Cheers.

I got the the red x or something for blocked driver and process. Responding to these is confusing. I couldn't figure it out. GUI needs work. App doesn't launch on Standard User Account.

It does indeed look very cool, but protection wise it's not as good as SS 12, at least not yet. From what I understood, you can't configure what type of behaviors it will monitor. It's more set and forget, and I'm not really interested in the anti-executable function.

Yes I agree, way too expensive and not a realistic price. Even GlassWire is less expensive and it comes from the same company. I'm guessing they will soon change prices.

Yes, the website looks good and so does the new GUI. And cool that they now have a forum. They are definitely on the right track. :thumb:

BTW, from what I understood, not all modules are active yet. So SpyShelter 15 does not offer keyboard encryption and it also does not protect against code injection. I'm actually a bit surprised that they decided to release it anyway, without these features. Even though it feels finished, it's still very much a work in progress.

To clarify, I'm mostly interested if SS 15 can block malware post execution, since SS is not an AV. So if it can't block or identify malware it's not a problem, but it should at least be able to block malware from achieving its goal. So files that are protected should not be able to get encrypted. And keyloggers/infostealers should not be able to steal data.

On the other hand, it's an unfinished product, not on par with SpyShelter 12, in my view. It doesn't block outgoing connections, code injection and keylogging, at least not yet. So perhaps it's indeed too soon for a test. However, it is now more focused on executable control, so it would still be interesting.

Agreed. I am also wondering if the new coders have taken the same path as was done by RansomOff a few years back. They had a fine anti-ransomware product, but as they considered it a One Trick Pony it was re-coded to be an overall AM solution with disastrous results (no mechanistic awareness, so it just blocked, like, everything.

For SS to be taken seriously, on file execution it much be able to distinguish between good and bad and for both exe and non-exe coded files.

I can agree, it works as an anti exe, but I would prefer if SS blocked immediately malware, as some HIPS do.

Yes good point, hopefully it won't block all unrecognized apps. And like I said before, I'm not even interested in the anti-exe feature, I just want it to alert about/block certain behavior, no matter if the app is trusted or not. This is similar to the ''ask user'' feature in SS 12.

I believe this is also the objective of the new SS 15, but I might be wrong. I personally rather let my AV decide if some app is malware or not. Or perhaps SS 15 wil simply scan the file via VirusTotal?

Plays well with GlassWire. I had the same favorable results on my system as well.
