I think Atomas31 was saying that the "stop" or "start" option was greyed when you right on it, instead of clicking on "Properties".

I think it was by design. All beta build of Spy Sweeper 5.0 act like this.

In order to stop the service, you need to click on "Properties" and change the start mode to "Manual", then restart.

Just did a manual scan of Drive C where Windows XP reside.

It took 6.26 minutes to scan 37647 files, the registry, cookies, and process in memory.

I downloaded the trial version of 14 days and I expected v5.0, but I got v4.5.9 (build 709) instead.
    Spyware Definitions : v715

Well I ran it anyway :
    Spyware Fingerprints Loaded : 141,664
    Items Found : 0
    Traces Found : 0
    Scan Time = 39 minuts
It "sweeps" my FDISR-snapshots as well.

Has the word "Sweep" the same meaning as "Scan", because I interprete "Sweep" as "Detect & Remove", which is more frightening, because I like to remove them myself o_O

Sweep has more or less the same meaning as Scan. After you perform a Sweep (scan) your dangerous items will be quarantined, and you have the option to delete or restore those items.

Actually....what he said was...."all the option (including the stop function) are grey out"....and I assumed "all" meant even Properties. Of course you and I can speculate but Atomas will hold the answer ;)

    WOW
It looks pretty good with the new features. I have the current version, but only use it as an on-demand scanner because it is so bloated and slows down the boot process too much. It would seem that this newer version will probably be slightly faster, but not by much. Thanks for your post.
One question, how effective an antitrojan scanner is spysweeper and how does it measure against dedicated AT scanners such as trojan hunter or ewido?
Thanks for replies, have a great day folks.

Bubba, yes I can change the Properties to manual so it won't start at the next reboot. But like Chubb indicated I wanted to stop it without having to reboot!!!

Also, if it was by design, I hate that... Will they change that in the future and give paying customers total control on how they want to use there Spysweepero_O

    Thanks guy's,
    Atomas31

    Hi Bubba,

When I mean all the option was grey out, I was not meaning properties ;-)

    Best regards,

IMHO, I would consider Spy Sweeper more of an anti-spyware than an anti-trojan, although Spy Sweeper also claimed that it can also detect trojans. Spy Sweeper makes a lot of shields to prevent spyware from attacking and loading in addition to the on-access signature detection.

I think Spy Sweeper is more mature and stronger in spyware detection and prevention, while Ewido is more mature and stronger in trojan detection and prevention.

Great stuff, what a speed improvement. Version 4.5 used to take 23 mins on my 250 Gb hardrive, now it completes in 4 mins. This brings it almost on par with Spyware Doctor 4 which cleans the same disk in 3 mins.

Try to download the file here by filling in the form

    https://secure.webroot.com/register/softwareupdates.asp

When you got the e-mail, the download link to the file should point to the 5.0 version, since the file on the server is already the 5.0 version..

But that is no help for one who is just trialing. Maybe today they will get it right. If not that is OK too.

Oh yes, they are still offering 4.5 for trial. :p Maybe they are modifying the full version file to make it a trial.

I just tried to downlooad, and the setup shows 1876046421. That is the same as the last time I tried and it is 4.5.
    I am loading from here.
    http://www.webroot.com/consumer/products/spysweeper/latestv.html

This is weird. I do not have a paid version installed so I cannot use the upgrade.

    Hi JerryM,

Did you clear your internet cache and temp files? I just downloaded from

    http://www.webroot.com/consumer/products/spysweeper/latestv.html

and this gives ssfsetup1_1875429855.exe which is 10,402,992 bytes. I am downloading it with Opera which showed the exact size of the file. The properties of the file showed that it is 5.0.5.1286.

Anyone else find that some of the main buttons, Options, Quarantine etc are very sticky? ( takes a few secs to open ).
