A few colleagues have convinced me that this test is as close as it gets to normal browser use.
My daughter told me that on her home PC with Linux OS, Firefox is noticeably slow.
I presume not only for the daily activities that take place on the PC, but especially for those few times that she has to use the browser to perform work practices.

So I have installed in her pc the browser Chrome (it is the one she prefers since always ) I have tried to configure Chrome in a way more similar "as possible" to Firefox.

    Firefox (OS Xubuntu 21.10):

    Chrome (OS Xubuntu 21.10):

A remarkable difference, my daughter is right to say that FF is slow.
It would be interesting to see if other browsers are even faster obviously with this test.:isay:

Results do match my observations--that is, Firefox and Vivaldi are similar in performance on here. This is Windows 10.

Edit--re-ran the test without anything in the background this time:

    Firefos--116
    Vivaldi-- 112

I don't have Firefox, my Chrome readings are just about the same as Edge: 86.55 for Chrome and 87.52 for Edge (Win10, WiFi connection)

    :D

    Very strange behavior.
Evidently some of your settings are disturbing the test.

I thought about that; maybe something in about:config. Under detailed results there are some numerical values:

    firefox speedometer.png

In Windows I got a more expected result, can't remember what, but similar to what others were getting, and it's about:config settings are very similar to FF on Linux.

I ran the test on my MacBook Pro (Apple M1/ARM CPU) (MBP18,1) w/macOS 12.1 Monterey.

I really didn't mentally perceive that much speed difference - even downloading a 200MB test file.

    Average Speedometer 2.0 test results:

    Firefox 96 - 125
    Safari 15.2 - 223
    Chrome 97 - 282

    HTH

Now,after changing some settings in about:config Firefox outperforms Edge in the test.
I am preparing very much in advance for MV3.

With all this noise about Manifest v. 3 and chromium browsers, it's good to go gecko (for me). Ditched Vivaldi long ago.

    A curiosity.
Is Enhanced Security Protection in Edge enabled in strict mode?

If not, can you repeat the test even with anti-trackers protection in strict mode?
