    Just as in info:

Recently there was a Phoronix article about a 200 line kernel patch aimed to considerably improve the responsiveness of the Linux desktop which was heavily praised by Linus Torvalds.

Now an alternative to this patch was published that simply consists of some commands added to three system files. According to this posting that patch is even more performant than the kernel patch.

I've just done these modifications, but so far I can't tell if there is any noticeable improvement.

EDIT: Sorry - I just saw that there is another thread that covered this topic already.
