I am interested in finding an effective program for removing spam from my email, that is free.

If you are interested in a safer email-software than MS Outlook, try freeware Mozilla Thunderbird :
http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/
which has a built-in anti-spam feature.
You can also use the above mentioned anti-spam softwares in combination with Thunderbird.
