I have XP Home Edition SP2 ,also Office XP Small Business Edition. I have been having some problems with Office ,won't update ,gives a pop up saying that it is on CD when I try to open Word or Exel then opens and seems fine. Now where the noise comes in when I shut down. It gets to the screen saying Windows is shutting down and about half way through you can hear a bong like when you try to do something Windows doesn't like. How can I find out what is happening? I think if I can straighten this out things will work better. Please help.

Well, if MS Office asks for the CD, it means installation was not completed, and therefore it requires the CD. Try reinstalling MS Office.

Then report if the bong still happens ;)

This problem can be caused under some conditions, I had experienced it myself not long ago. http://www.fluxgfx.com/ssc/showthread.php?p=450#post450

There is a bit of work involved to determine exactly the condition for that message error, and it may be bit of work to resolve.
