I have posted this on a few other boards and it has never failed to generate some interesting, sometimes heated debate.
Hypothetically speaking. If a car could travel at the speed of light, then turned on its` headlights.......would any light escape\be seen? o_O :doubt:

Hmmm, ya didn't say there was anyone driving, just that the CAR turned on it's lights.....at the speed of light....

If you were standing in front of the car when it decided to do that, then....

the last thing you would see is probably your tail......lights.:D

    So, I guess the answer is.....YES! :D

 :D hmmmmm....that was one argument that I had yet to hear. Will now have to add that into my "cyphering" as I try to reach the definative answer to this question. ;)

The light would probably scatter into the atmosphere too fast for you to see it. However, something else may see that light and remark "Hey! Cool! Lights but no vehicle, call the UFO detection squad!" :D

For what it's worth - I believe the traditional answer is that the speed of light being constant (leastways within the terms of this argument) means that regardless of the speed of the vehicle - light still travels at the same speed. So that, if for this debate, we accept that a physical mass could travel at speeds of light, it shouldn't affect the properties of the light from the headlights. In short the speed of light is not a cumulative thing, it doesn't depend on, nor is it affected by the source - be it static or moving.

Now if someone could just tell me how I put 2 socks in the washing machine, but only 1 comes out - I'd be a happy bean.

This is simple. One sock shrunk and became a wad of cotton and eventually merged into the other sock.

Or perhaps the sock is stuck in there somewhere.

"Don't worry,it will turn up in the wash"-old mothers saying.:)

To the fella in the car that turns the light on it appears to him as going away at the normal speed.

OK, once you get the light-speed headlights figured out (or at least something resembling a consensus), here's another one. It's often raised, sometimes in the context of sci-fi stories, by writers with a great deal of knowledge in the field.

Imagine you're inside a very large perfect sphere (at the center, to be precise), and its inside surface is a perfect mirror. You turn on a powerful flashlight (no light can get in from outside) -- what do you see? o_O

And don't ask me for an answer -- as I understand it, the greatest minds in the universe still can't agree on it.

You are so right there Mio Compadre Edmeister.....the quandary is a Mind-field and a field full of minds can make you think.....

As the Bible says...Quote.....He that hath no batteries in his lamp shall never see the light...........

Gerald Einstein always had an answer to any question regarding the speed of light and it's relevance to electrical speed and diversity......he always said "Watt".........and there you have it....no matter which way the Usher shines the torch when finding your seats in the Cinema you will always fall down the last step..........proving that the speed of light is slower than a step in the dark.........

My comprehensive book on the subject can be bought from anyone who looks as though his light was never switched on.......

    will be FULL OF BEANS........

Anyone wanna shed some light on that one?

Any speed is OK, as long as it's BEFORE the Birthday party-

Is there a speed of smell? o_O
    Just curious.......
