    Yesterday I booted up my computer and found this ugly thing staring me in the face:

    My homepage, google, yahoo, lycos, and probably other sites were replaced with this:

    The removal instructions on the first picture just linked me to the product homepage. I used both adaware and spybot s&d and this thing is still here.
    I did a system restore and that got the thing off the desktop but I still couldn't access google or yahoo or lycos:

    I undid the restore and followed the advice of posters on a thread by Biker Boy who shared my problem as far as I could tell, but that didn't fix anything. I also ran CWshredder twice, one of those times on reboot, and it found and removed stuff, but the annoying problem persisted. Here's my hijackthis log.

    Check the following items in HijackThis.
    Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    NOTE....even in safe mode you may have to open taskmanager and end task on some of them before you can delete them.

    Then Boot to safe mode: Instructions here

    Delete the folowing files\folders IF still present:

    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <-----folder

    Then reboot and use AdAware as described :
    HERE

    Empty your Temporary Internet Files and history in Internet Options. And clean out your
    %Userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp
    folder. It's a good idea to do that regularly.

    Then Disable system restore: Instructions here
    Reboot

    Enable System Restore.

    YAY! I fixed the annoying thing on my desktop. The answer was simple and I'm really quite ashamed I didn't think of it earlier. I right clicked my desktop, went to properties, then under the desktop tab I clicked customize desktop, then went to the web tab, and SURE ENOUGH, there was a web site on my desktop! I deleted it and now IT'S FINE! And I'm spyware free as far as I know. Thanks everyone!
