    This has always been a concern. Even when the source code is completely open, it's still possible to hide code within a compiler (even if the compiler code is open). Ken Thompson, the Turing Award winner in 1984, showed how to do this.

    So, this problem isn't new. We all have to put trust, at some point, in our machines. If not the OS and the apps, then we all have to trust the microcode on the CPU or other hardware level code.

    Perhaps this thread should have been posted to the general privacy forum instead, as it isn't the technical issues alone that warrant the attention.
