Sluggish HP on Bootup and During Performance

The PC user (a 60-year old retired teacher...woman) has installed a lot of games from the Game Channel, such as Atomic Pop, Betty Bad, Dark Orbit, Kunlock, PigPen, Speedway, and more, and plays Internet Backgammon, Hearts and Spades, using NetZero dial-up. The HP PC was pretty gummed up, but Adaware and SpyBot did not detect a lot of severe problems. No viruses found using Norton 2004.
