If I do a sector-based backup of a very large partition, say around 700GB, and more than 90% is free space, will I need 700GB of media to burn it to, or will the free space, especially if contiguous, be condensed to a very small number of bytes.

The image size would be about 35-40 GB, depending on the compression level used. The program gives an estimation of the size.

Free space is always excluded from backup, if raw mode is not enabled.
