The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him, and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself, too.
    --Samuel Butler

One reason the dog has so many friends: He wags his tail instead of his tongue.
    --Unknown

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you; that is the principal difference between a dog and a man
    --Mark Twain

Here, Gentlemen, a dog teaches us a lesson in humanity
    --Napoleon Bonaparte

To his dog, every man is Napoleon; hence the constant popularity of dogs.
    --Aldous Leonard Huxley British writer

Kindred thanks you for the compliments :D
It's always refreshing to chat with other animal lovers. My vision of a perfect world is one where my dogs are welcome everywhere that I am :D

Thanks for the inspirational quotes, they all ring true to anyone who has a canine companion.

Here is my favorite doggie quote :)

-My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am

Sorry that I do not know who to credit these wise words to.

That is one problem with large very friendly dogs. They often think that they are lap dogs. :D

One of my favorite doggie quotes:

A door is something which a dog is always on the wrong side of!

    How true, how true! :D

A dog that is owned by someone else is an animal. A dog that is owned by you is family. :)

    A Dog Poem

Why own a dog? There's a danger you know,
You can't own just one, for the craving will grow.
There's no doubt they're addictive, wherein lies the danger,
While living with lots, you'll grow poorer and stranger.

One dog is no trouble and two are so funny,
The third one is easy, the fourth one's a honey.
The fifth one is delightful, the sixth one's a breeze,
You find you can live with a household with ease.

So how 'bout another? Would you really dare?
They're really quite easy but oh Lord the hair!
With dogs on the sofa and dogs on the bed,
And crates in the kitchen, it's no bother you said.

They're really no trouble, their manners are great,
What's one more dog and just one more crate?
The sofa is hairy, the windows are crusty,
The floor is all footprints, the furniture all dusty.

The housekeeper suffers, but what do you care?
Who minds a few nose prints and a little more hair.
So let's keep a puppy, you can always find room,
And a little more time for the dust cloth and broom.

There's hardly a limit to the dogs you can add,
The thought of a cutback sure makes you sad.
Each one is so special, so useful, so funny,
The vet and the food bill grows larger, you owe money.

Your folks never visit, few friends come to stay,
Except other dog folks, who live all the same way.
Your lawn has now died, and your shrubs are dead too,
But your weekends are busy, your off with your crew.

There's dog food and vitamins, training and shots,
And entries and travel and motel which cost lots.
Is it worth it, you wonder? Are you caught in a trap?
Then that favorite dog comes and climbs in your lap.

His look says you're special and you know that you will,
Keep all of the critters in spite of the bill.
But winter's a hassle, the dogs hate it too,
But they must have their walks though they're numb and you're blue.

Late evening is awful, you scream and you shout
At the dogs on the sofa that refuse to go out.
The dogs and the dog show, the travel, the thrills,
The work and the worry, the pressure, the bills.

The whole thing seems worth it, the dogs are our life
They're charming and funny and offset the strife.
Your lifestyle has changed - things won't be the same.
Yes, those dogs are addictive and so is the game!

I would like to take credit for writing the poem but I can't do that. There wasn't a name on the poem but I liked it so much I just had to post it.

    I agree with Shelb! :D

As someone who's owned by a dog, I can identify with all that poem.

    Thanks, Bigc!

BTW, why is it that as your dog gets older, that it takes a shorter time after a bath for that funky doggie smell to come back?

    For dog friends! :)

Another nice one by Emily Lewis:

    My Dog *puppy*

Have you seen a little dog anywhere about?

A raggy dog, a shaggy dog,

    who's always looking out

    For some fresh mischief which

he thinks he really ought to do.

He's very likely at this minute

    biting on someone's shoe.

If you see that little dog,

his tail up in the air,

A whirly tail, a curly tail,

    a dog who doesn't care

For any other dog he meets,

    not even for himself,

Then hides your mats, and put your meat

    upon the top-most shelf.

If you see that little dog, barking at the cars,

A raggy dog, a shaggy dog,

    with eyes like twinkling stars,

Just let me know, for though he's bad,

as bad as bad can be,

I wouldn't change that dog for all

    the treasures of the sea.

    Because we do like animals!

"Keep treating those little furballs right!"

Don't worry we will. I had my own menagerie in the past and I was in paradise: a cat, two dogs, a duck, a hamster, a raccoon and a canary. Each time I brought a new animal home my parents started raising h*** but after a while they got used to the animal and would not complain anymore. But father never liked my hamster. He kept saying that it looked like a rat!
