Your call. I agree it should be fine, but who knows what will happen in a year? I can guess, but really don't for myself - so I cannot predict if, or how your needs may change.

I will be replacing it with a larger ssd before the year is out. My plan is to buy a 120gb and use that while I get the money together for a larger, high quality ssd, say around 500gb so before this year is out I would be able to replace the 120gb with a 500gb and say goodbye to my hard drive completely.

I had about ten OS partitions on my 120 GB SSD when it was in this computer.

Two WinXPs, Win7, Win8, Ubuntu, a few DOS, a few WinPEs, etc.

My son has it now and uses three OS partitions.

    I agree.

So 120gb as Mohamed pointed it is perfect for windows plus programs.

If your data fits, it's fine.

There are lots of ways you can reduce used space in an OS partition. For example, you can save lots of space by not using Hibernation and not using a large Page File. I never use Hibernation. I prefer Sleep.

When I installed Win8 on a SSD I was surprised to find Windows only allocated 5 GB to the Page File. A week later Windows reduced the Page File to 2 GB and it has remained that size. This computer has 16 GB of RAM.

Thanks Brian. So would you recommend going for a 120gb or a 250gb? I'm currently only using 33gb hard drive space with windows and all my software on win 8 x64 with 8gb ram.

120 GB. Bigger would be a waste of money.

    Hi Brian

Now have the SSD. Made two partitions and restore my Active@ image to the drive. Got halfway through the boot and hung. Rather than mess around I installed Win 8/64 instead and then restored the same image again and it worked without problem.

From all I have read I thought it would be a lot quicker. It is not that much quicker than from my HD. Once it has reached the boot menu it is alright, but slow up to that point.

I have had 2 SSDs for a couple of years old or so. They are still working fine. I use them as regular drive. Disable defrag and I don't see any reason to make any other changes. Making more than one partition is a personal thing, I have never seen a benefit to it. If you have plenty of RAM then you should be able to get away wit ha 2GB pagefile if you want to free up some space on a smaller drive. Though Windows will not use all of a 24GB pagefile, it will allocate the space for it. Same with the hibernation file. If you aren't going to use it turn it off the free up the space. If you are leave it alone.

    David,

That's OK. You aren't using the SSD until the Boot Menu. Prior to the Boot Menu is the BIOS.

I thought Win 8 pre loaded itself to the boot menu. If you select Win 7 at the menu the computer then reboots back to the BIOS

I mentioned I didn't like the Microsoft boot menu. Anyone know what's happening here?

I tried using EasyBCD and it did not seem to improve anything.

Is there a better way do dual boot Win 7 & 8?
