I was able to install most of today's scheduled WinXP security updates except for KB913446 supposedly due to a download failure. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Microsoft is aware of the issue and was commented to on a Microsoft newsgroup.

Yes I had the same problem. Solved it by downloading the update package (WindowsXP-KB913446-x86-ENU.exe) and running it local. :)

    Workaround:

Use the MBSA (Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer) instead of Windows Update.;)

Thanks for the thread. I had the same problem with both of my computers, and figured it was the update server or some such. I don't know enough to try to get around it, and hope MS will solve the problem soon and I will update then.

I must not be doing it correctly. When I click on the download icon, I go to the MS site, and naturally experience the same problem.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks,
    Jerry

You're not doing anything wrong Jerry. That particular update (KB913446) has experienced a problem so it failed, and many people have reported it. MS were fixing it, and may have done so at the time of this post. If not, try again later, or download it manually from the link I gave.

    Thanks, Tony.
I was able to download and install it using the link you provided. I was not clicking on the "download" but instead on the link in the upper right hand corner which took me to the MS site. DUUUH.

In addition to Tony's link, if you want to see the full descriptions of all the latest round of updates, go HERE where you can also download manually.

    TAS

lol, I must have been to that page about 3-4 times in last hour, but when checking the link again, I now get this MS 'survey' to fill in also.

It was a relief to read here of so many others having the same problem with this particular Update - not that I'd wish a failed update on anyone, least of all a security one! Relief is that at least my system is behaving within "normal" bounds with this.

Windows Auto-Update tried to download & install it to my machine and failed ( although I didn't know this until I went to the MS Update site and checked my history ) so I tried 3 times at the MS site, all failures then followed the link to TechNet and had no further problems with the Update, it downloaded and installed from there without a hitch.

I must have just missed the Survey :ninja:

yeah, i had the same problem too on all my computers, but a couple of hours ago, windows automatic update started running and it installed the failed update :thumb: so try using windows update again right now and it should work.

I had to go the exe route too, but that worked just fine.

There's only one problem with updating that way, and I wish MS would get their act together. Update History only keeps track of installations actually done thru Update, so this one's still showing as failed. But at least it's no longer showing as needed.
