    Here is a list of security programs and catagories. This will give a good indication of your needs and what is available.

    Some programs crossover different catagories. Feel free to add to the list.

    This list does not include every program that is available in each catagory but is instead a cross-section of some of the more popular programs. FREE indictates a free version is available with full or limited usability. Most free programs listed have a paid Pro version as well.

    Anti Spyware: I have found SpyCatcher (shareware from www.tenebril.com) very effective, especially that part of the program which prevents reinfection. This software also prevents browser hijacking and unauthorised tampering with the list of favourites. Tenebril's support is good too.

    so far i've gone for all the free stuff

    firewall - Zone Alarm

    anti-virus - AVG

    spyware scanners - Ad-Aware and Spybot

    background monitors - Spywareblaster and Scotty (Winpatrol)

    just got to remember to try and keep it all up to date - i need a secretary :D
