using a password for windows logon is an obvious security advantage in a home and work environment.

can someone educate me as to whether it has any security role while being connected to the internet. :gack:

If you're using the classic logon style, the 'lock computer' option should give some security and privacy to you, but the password used to log on to windows plays no security role while connected to the internet unless you've got good security protection on your computer and exercise the classic logon style and make good use of the 'lock computer' option, which requires the same password used to log on to windows.
