AVG picked up SecThought.E. I followed the reccomendations about running adaware and spy bot. Initially, my son discovered all of the desk top icons had disappeared, as well as his favourites folder contents. After running the programs and restarting they were all restored, but AVG still says it's there so I'd appreciate a look at my hijack this logfile. Thanks.

Check these in hijackthis, AND WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED, fix checked.

All R0/R1 lines - except the one home and one search page you wish to keep.
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MyWebSearch\bar\3.bin\mwsoemon.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MyWebSearch Email Plugin] C:\PROGRA~1\MyWebSearch\bar\3.bin\mwsoemon.exe

    O4 - Global Startup: MyWebSearch Email Plugin.lnk = C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\3.bin\MWSOEMON.EXE
    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe
    O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusearch.html?p=ZS
    O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.imgfarm.com/images/nocach...etup1.0.0.8.cab

The following activeX controls will reinstall when(and if) you revisit that website, UNLESS you know they are from a safe source, check to remove.

    O16 - DPF: {41F17733-B041-4099-A042-B518BB6A408C} - http://a1540.g.akamai.net/7/1540/52...meInstaller.exe

Then Reboot to safe mode (F8 on boot) and delete the following files/folders:-

    Folder > C:\PROGRAM FILES\MyWebSearch\

Then Reboot and post a fresh log for me to check.

Re: New HiJack this new log file

    Hi jedh68,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O2 - BHO: MyWebSearch Search Assistant BHO - {00A6FAF1-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SearchAt\3.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL (file missing)

    O2 - BHO: mwsBar BHO - {07B18EA1-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\3.bin\MWSBAR.DLL (file missing)

    O4 - Global Startup: MyWebSearch Email Plugin.lnk = C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\3.bin\MWSOEMON.EXE

Reboot and check if the folder C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch is really gone.

Can you give us the full path and fillename of where AVG finds the malware.
Please use the reply button so all the posts stay in this thread.
I merged this one with the initial thread.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    OK.

IN IE click Tools > Internet options > General tab > Delete Files and put a checkmark in the Offline Content box as well.

    Regards,

    Pieter
