I am currently having problems with the search assistant toolbar popping up on the taskbar everytime i log into windows xp. Right clicking and disabling it removes it, but it pops up again every time i log in. I have tried going into the registry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CabinetState and setting the Use Search Asst value to no, but this is doesn't help. Here is my log. Any help is very much appreciated.

    Hi bjb53,

Before you start please move hijackthis.exe to a folder of it´s own. The program creates backups in the folder it is in. These will now end up on your desktop.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=

    F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe,
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {01F44A8A-8C97-4325-A378-76E68DC4AB2E} - C:\WINDOWS\systb.dll

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows SA] C:\Program Files\WindowsSA\omniscient.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\Program Files\WindowsSA <= entire folder
    C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe

    Regards,

    Pieter

Thanks so much for your help. You directions solved the problem. If you have the time I'd be interested to know what may have caused this to occur in the first place. Thanks Again!
