Scheduling Programs for Scanning in General

Not quite sure if this is the correct forum but nevertheless posting my prob with the hope that help can be forthcoming.
Whenever I set the scheduling of programs (I assume that they have been setup correctly) and by that I mean, after setting up the time schedule from the prog itself, I then check within Windows Scheduling and they are mentioned as running at the time set..
I am experience two (2) problems that I am not able to see understand.
1. Even though mentioned as running, I see no indication to that effect
2. Allowing for the process to be completed, I then try to do a manual scan but unable to activate the programme for quite some time. In fact the only way that the programs will activate manually is by rebooting my PC.
The one that I am concerned with the most is Spybot - Search and Destroy.
