ScanDisk not working

    Hello all,

    I am trying to run scandisk on a friend's computer in safe mode. He has Windows ME.
    It constantly restarts without finishing.
    Could this be spyware or a virus? I'm in the process of downloading spybot s+d, BTW.

    dear Douglas, try running scandisk after booting from a floppy or CD. you can make this disk slave and run scandisk from a master drive. make sure in all cases the floppy/CD/HDD is clean from viruses. also checkout the start-up list of his system. you can do it from START>RUN>MSCONFIG>STARTUP.

    Many thanks. I'll download a free av as soon as spybot is done downloading. (My friend doesn't run an antivrus :rolleyes: ).

    dear Douglas, i'm amazed how your friend managed to run that OS without an AV. while you're at it try downloading SpywareBlaster from www.javacoolsoftware.com and a2 from www.a-2.org
