Scan getting stuck at 11%

Hi,

I have just downloaded the free trial version of ESET smart security 4, because I was recently infected with malware/viruses that cleared my desktop of all icons and made it look like my start/all programs was empty.

Anyway, on my first scan with eset, it got stuck at 8%....after 2 hours, it was still at 8%, so I stopped it. I tried again today, now its stuck at 11%. The little green circle is moving around, and the dots are still flashing, but no progress is being made.

Any ideas?

The system its on is windows XP, I don't know how many bit...its an older PC.
