Is it a must to set the on-access scanner to scan all files?

If it does not impact on system performance, scanning all files by the RTM is generally advised.

However, on this setting some AV's, particularly on older computers, can slow down performance markedly.

If this is the case, scanning the default standard file set is generally safe, as long as regular on-demand scanning of all files is carried out together with the checking of all downloaded files.
