Build 1.8.0 introduced a couple of major changes to Sandboxie's inner mechanics, all preset access directives have been moved to template entries. Sandboxie now fully isolates the NT namespace, reducing the potential attack surface,

Build 1.8.2 improves the browser and electron app compatibility quite a bit, it also adds a new web browser compatibility Template wizard allowing to create templates for previously unknown Chromium and Firefox (gecko) based browsers.

Please review the full Changelog thoroughly as it documents a bunch of new options which allow to control the new compatibility mechanisms and in case of unexpected issues will help to mitigate them.

OK, so far so good. Installed 1.8.3 over the top of 1.8.1.

Anyone: Do you get an email reminder if your supporter's certificate is about to expire? How much notice in advance? Thanks.

I have my taskbar set to automatically hide in Windows 10. I noticed that when I have a program maximized in Sandboxie and move my mouse cursor to the bottom, the taskbar doesn't show in version 1.8.3. The hidden taskbar used to show up in version 1.7.2 and earlier versions. Not a big deal, it's just annoying. Can anyone else confirm this?

Win 10. 1.8.3. installed over the top. Vivaldi all fine.

No Edge box will run (any colour) they open with blank page or just close immediately.
Ublock crashes and Sbie Crypto shows in Sbie GUI.

EDIT.. Edge Version 112.0.1722.34 (Official build) (64-bit)

To add to the above info.

On a different machine Classic 1 63.3 has the same issues with Edge. Cannot open any sites, in fact I had to close Edge via Sbie GUI as Edge refused to close and just 'dinged' at me.

No problems here with Sandboxie Plus 1.8.3 and Edge Version 112.0.1722.34 (Official build) (64-bit).

hmm... seams something from edge 111.x to 112.x broke compatibility, I can reproduce the issue on a clean VM and rolling back to Sandboxie 1.7.2 does not seam to help

So some testing later it seams that in build 1.8.3 in a green box MsEdge 112.x works, so our latest fixes and improvements were not in vain.
But in a yellow box MsEdge 112.x crashes in 1.8.3 and 1.7.2 so this will need to be fixed.
Until then a green box with drop admin rights enabled will be needed to run msedge, security wise as long as in the global options "Kernel Object Filtering" is enabled such a configuration is safe enough.

edge seams to detect subsequent failures and at some point disable some part of its own isolation mechanism.
so that is probably why it works for you.

I can confirm that Edge 112.x does not work with Sandboxie 1.7.2 and 1.8.3. However, it works fine for me with Sandboxie 1.8.1. Maybe this info will help you find the culprit. (Tested on two different systems with Windows 10 x64 22H2.)

Made a discovery today. The hidden taskbar issue I reported earlier only happens with Firefox and Thunderbird. I sandboxed some other programs and everything worked properly. I'll continue to test some other programs and will report back if it happens with another program.

    Sandboxie 1.8.3 (Security Hardened Sandbox)
    Firefox 111.0.1
    Thunderbird 102.9.1
    Windows 10

Confirmed here. Edge yellow works with 1.8.1.
    Green box no.

Just installed Librewolf, Chrome and Mullvad browsers. I can confirm the taskbar issue only happens with Mozilla code (Firefox, Thunderbird, Librewolf, Mullvad browser). Chrome, Edge and any other program sandboxed works properly. This is with Sandboxie 1.8.3. Everything worked with 1.7.2 and earlier versions. I haven't tested the versions between 1.7.2 and 1.8.3.

Thank you for this inside, it saves me a lot of time, I wouldn't have thought of checking that intermediate build, but it indeed harbors a acceptable workaround.
In the long run I'll look for a more proper fix, but for the next build I'll go with the variant from 1.8.1...

Just tested version 1.8.1 and the taskbar issue started with this version. So to summarize, with the taskbar set to automatically hide and when a program (ONLY with Mozilla code: Firefox, Thunderbird, Librewolf, Mullvad Browser) is maximized in Sandboxie, when you move the mouse cursor to the bottom, the taskbar doesn't show. This started with version 1.8.1 to 1.8.3. Other programs sandboxed work perfectly with no taskbar issue. Version 1.7.2 and earlier, ALL programs work with no taskbar issue.

    Windows 10 22H2 (64-bit)
    Firefox 111.0.1 (64-bit)
    Thunderbird 102.9.1

Great, glad I could help and you found a workaround for the next version. :) Thanks for the quick problem solving. :thumb:

I have uploaded a bug-fixed sbiedll.dll for build 1.8.4, as 1.8.3a you can update to it with the build in updater, but note that its unsigned.
A signed 1.8.4 build with a few more fixes will be released later today.
it would be good if the 1.8.3a sbiedll.dll could be tested to ensure all works fine before the final release
