Competition between standards/formats repeats itself. Blue-ray vs HD DVD. VHS vs Betamax.

I don't believe it is competition or a standards war.

    It is Sony greed.

Sony owns Blu-ray. So if Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Microsoft, Nintendo, or who ever wants to build a Blu-Ray player or put Blu-Ray support in their products, they have to pay Sony licensing fees. This is exactly why Blu-ray support is NOT built into Windows - Sony would charge MS for every single license and that, in turn, would raise the cost of each Windows license.

I must say that I prefer streaming over DVD, I absolutely hate it that you can not always skip commercials in the beginning of DVD's.
