14 on this page. # of ads blocked. They did not request I turn blocker off or allow them to mine. Like, uh sure. Salon always has sucked.

I didn't get any ad blocker warnings there either, maybe because I'm using uBO (with the Adguard Base + Annoyance filters added), which defeats many anti-blockers by default. Interestingly, this was the first time I have visited Salon in several years, and I was not impressed enough to return :argh:

:) Same for me. When I visited using a Chromebook I turned on Privacy Badger and Adblocker Ultimate.

Why would I want to give away my computing resources for free?

Well at least they are honest and open about their business model.
I find that a lot more reasonable than filling my browser with unwanted advertising and data mining tracking spyware.
Its like the difference between someone saying I have created this content and if you want to read it, I'll trade it with you for some of your CPU time as opposed to, the other saying I have this content and I'll share it with you for free, then once they suckered you into trusting them, they rob you of your privacy and claim in their defence, its a business.
The latter, aka the mainstream corporate internet are sleazebags and their so called business model is testimony to that.

One thing I've done to fight this kind of stuff is I've really been working with NoScript. I changed the default so it allows nothing, and then first look at what the website wants to do. Then I allow the minimum necessary. Takes a minor bit of work, but stops this crap.

They don't seem to be testing anything.
