It features full SafeOnline function and Prevx free (i.e. malware detection, instant threat alerts, adware removal), for max. security you need to buy malware removal and realtime protection. In short, the facebook version offers you more than Prevx free.

SafeOnline inherently depends on some elements of realtime protection to provide full protection so you will need to have the realtime scanner enabled (although it should have minimal interaction with the system).

that is unfortunate because from what ive seen, Prevx's IO usage is relatively high and i was hoping i could disable the realtime scanner to get rid of that...

are there any plans to have SOL as a completely independent feature that can be run with everything else disabled in the future?

You could tweak the settings to make it as low as possible. In basic configuration uncheck Enhanced Rootkit Detection, Realtime MBR Scanning. In scheduler, disable Scheduled scans totally, and in Heuristics settings check Disable heuristics. That should help with IO usage ;)

since SOL uses at least part of the realtime scanner, could that not perhaps effect SOL's performance?

I don't know all the things SOL uses, so I can't be sure, better if Joe answers this one.

In Windows, the I/O usage counts are actually quite inaccurate. Prevx analyzes behaviors from across the system and when sending data across the system between processes (not actually touching the disk), it counts as I/O. In realtime, Prevx is only scanning files as they execute so realtime scanning should be quite light on the system.

We are not planning on having SafeOnline as a separate feature because of the necessity for essentially every other Prevx feature behind it, from self protection to behavior monitoring and even realtime protection if we find something which bypasses SafeOnline.

    Hope that helps! :)

'Prevx CSI Free' is the same as 'Prevx SOL Facebook edition'?

I've got to slap on a fresh image first because after yesterday's issue with Prevx SOL Facebook edition, my OS partition is completely buggered.

The OS (Vista SP2 x86 on this particular comp.) can't even be shut down. At all.
I have had to use a hard reboot with the accompanying HDD CLICK; extremely annoying and agitating.

This kind of update to a security sw program makes me hesitant to reinstall it.
