    greets,

i think i may have found the best password manager! :)

what i was looking for in a password manager was this:
    - has to have drag & drop
    - the ability to create custom fields
    - be secure.
    - be free
    - be portable

entering the master password in S10 is very secure as it "keyscrambles" as you enter the master password.
i verified this with the Zemana keylogger test.
it also has autocomplete and can launch a web site with 1 click.

i highly recommend this little gem!

    Thanks Moontan

I'll have a look at that. Could you do us a favor and test Keypass as well with Zemana keylogger?

    allright,

keypass does not protect entering the master password from keyloggers.

S10 does that, just click on the drop down box when entering your Master Password and select "Anti-Keylogging".

in S10, i've noticed that you have to disable Anti-Keylogging, then re-enable it for the Anti-Keylogging to work.
if you exit the program and re-enter it you'll have to remember doing it.

just download the Zemana keylogger testing app from Zemana so you can give it a try.

    allright,

the anti-keylogging seems a little erratic in S10.

the only way to make sure it works correctly is to check the output in the Zemana keylogger testing app.

might be an option in either Keypass or S10 to use a key file.

been using S10 for a few weeks.

despite it's flaws with the anti-keylogging feature, which by the way no other password apps has anyway, i still think it's the best password manager around.

give it try, it's free anyway. :)

Sounds very good, and especially for free :)

Tried to test both the install version and the portable. As i don't have .NET installed it attempted to call out to DL & install it. If i didn't have my FW set up to prompt me it would have just gone ahead = :thumbd: I don't want .NET in my comp, so i refused ;)

So the install version was a no go, on to the portable version. This also wouldn't even launch etc.

    fail.gif

How can a portable version of Anything be reliant on .NET ? If somethings "supposed" to be portable it shouldn't be reliant on stuff on the HD !

Maybe i missed something, if so please enlighten me :thumb:

it uses drag & drop, which doesn't use the clipboard.
but i heard than drag & drop can be bypassed easily by malware.

nothing is foolproof 100% i guess.

    i would agree with you.
however .NET is installed by default with Windows 7.
    at least i think.
i don't recall installing it on purpose.

I don't know why I'd never noticed this one before,

    anyways

S10 Password Vault 3.5 has .msi installer and USB-drive version

The latter stands for portable and can be run directly from HDD, right?

I got used to using keepass over time yet S10 seems to be a much more light-weight application.

If anyone still uses it please share your opinions,
    many thanks

Forgive me for asking, but why would you trust S10 Password Vault?

It also conflicts with AdMuncher, (at least it used to) which was a deal breaker for me.

    Hi moontan,
    Have you tried LastPass?
    I haven't, but I'm thinking about it.
It looks like their Screen Keyboard might be the ticket...

Hi moontan, I am the developer of S10 Password Vault - I fixed the bug you found that caused it not to remember the AntiKeylogging setting - see version 4 (scroll to bottom for new features / version history). Thanks.

sun88 - One reason to trust the app is that you can verify the encryption on all stored/transmitted data, using publicly available tools - see the encryption details page.

Yes, it's not very portable if it is reliant on .NET to function. Nice pointing that out CloneRanger.

i must have tried it because it is one of the popular ones.
if i did not keep it it's because it was probably lacking some features that are important to me.
    see first post.

    Yes, it does.

I still haven't tried against "default" settings, but there's an option to run the Master Password box in a Secure Desktop (Windows 2000 and above, according to the website). Spyshelter test failed to log the password.

    Give it a try.

    -edit-

Go to Options > Security > Enter Master Password in a Secure Desktop

    tnx moonblood :)

also, Keepass need .NET as well.

it's no big deal if you are using Vista or 7 because it comes with the OS.
XP users have to install it.

    A Sten:

i am still seeing the keylogger testing utility from Zemana sometimes capturing keystrokes when entering the Master Password with S10 version 4.

it's no big deal for me but it sure would help boost S10 popularity here at Wilders when this issue is fixed.

i have not tried with the Spyshelter test but you can get the Zemana tool here to check for yourself:
    http://zemana.com/KeyLogger_Test.aspx

please keep us posted when you have the times. :)

I've been using Keepass for years but never spotted this option. Thanks for the heads-up m00nbl00d :thumb:

You may also want to take a look at this, in case you aren't familiar with it. Just make sure you triple-check that the mouse cursor is in the username/password (depending on the website) field, otherwise this option will turn KeePass into a drunk program. :D
