    This person seems to be having the exact same issue as me. I just booted up my computer today and got the following message from returnil. "RPC server unavailable." I have been using Returnil for at least 6 months now and have never had any issues. Yesterday it was working fine. I shut my computer down last night and turned it on today and got this message. Anyone else experiencing this? I had to restart my computer several times before it would fully load into vista. It would just freeze. I finally got vista to load after a few restarts and I got the following message:

    http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/6708/ss20091101154447.png

    After i get the RPC sever error. Windows reports that "Returnil Virtual System Core Service has stopped working." It then shut downs returnil

    Any ideas anyone? I love this program but I just dont understand what is going on today.

    Also I do not have system restore turned on or automatic defrag because I know there are issues with these 2 things and returnil.
    I am using Returnil 2010

    Is RPC set to auto in services?

    I can't seem to replicate this on Vista at all, or on 7, having rebooted both my machines several times today.

    (I have drop all changes + start with windows + AV off + trust from real disk only)

    just checked and RPC is enabled in services to auto. I also noticed that returnil is creating a logfile in the windows folder called rv3.log. Here is what it says the errors are.

    OK, Coldmoon (Mike) will no doubt be back soon and I'm sure you'll get relief.

    I'd hold on to the full log - he'll want to see it.

    Sorry not to be able to help.

    EDIT: FWIW, those https entries might suggest something is causing the AV updates to fail - do you get the same RPC error with the AV component set to OFF?
    Maybe that's why I'm not getting this problem...?

    Hi
    Please send a detailed report (reference this thread) about what happened to support (dash) tech (at) returnil (dot) com and attach the following information:

    * C:\Windows\rvs3.log
    * C:\Windows\rvs3-inst.log
    * MSINFO32 or MSINFO64 report**

    **Click START > RUN > Type MSINFO32 or MSINFO64 as appropriate. On the System Information screen click FILE > Export and then save the file where you can find it to attach to your reply.

    Thanks
    Mike

    Thanks for the help coldmoon. I sent an email to tech support about my issue. It seems I have resolved the issue though. I uninstalled Returnil and reinstalled it. It seems to be working fine now no errors. I am not sure what was going on.

    Hi markedmanner,
    Unfortunately, the logs did not shed light on the reason for the client service not being available. Can you check the following directory and send a copy of the latest crash dump that corresponds to the time when this issue occurred?

    Thanks
    Mike

    I will look up these dumps and post them. Also what I find interesting is today I when I came home my desktop computer was froze. I tried restarting several times. Every time after loading into windows the red R logo shield would come up when it was loading. Then a few seconds later my system would just freeze. I finally had to restart into safe mode and disable returnil from running at startup. My computer then started fine. My desktop is an XP machine and my laptop is running vista. I have had almost the same identical issue with both now. Here is what the rvs3.log file said on my desktop machine:

    2009-11-02 04:22:42 err COMApiHandler::Fire_CallbackEvent[34C]: Failed to trigger an event 3: -2147024891

    On both computers I have the AV in returnil disabled.

    Hello
    I had exactly the same problem. Couldn't log completely into Vista when the desktop froze after half the systray icons loaded.
    The Event Log stated for Event ID 7034: "The Returnil Virtual System Core Service terminated unexpectedly".

    I had to boot into Safe Mode, uninstall Returnil, successfully boot into the desktop, then reinstall Returnil.

    Thanks

    What build of RVS (check the "About" screen in the program interface). If it is not v3.0.6517.4958-REL, please upgrade your copy and then let me know if the issue remains.

    Hello
    I had exactly the same problem. Couldn't log completely into XP when the desktop froze after half the systray icons loaded.

    But if I remove the network cable, XP starts without problems.
    I hope the information helps in troubleshooting.

    I am also facing the problem "RPC server is unavailable" intermittently. However Returnil does not appear to have been crashed. I also get something like "disk writing error... Please save to some other partition." I am not able to give the complete error, because by the time I take paper and pen to jot down the error, the message has disappeared, even without clicking the error message, which appears as an icon in the tray area. I am not sure what is happening, but it does not seem to affect my system in any way. I never had this sort of problem with the free RVS 2008 version. The version I am using now is the v3.0.6517.4958-REL
    Regards.

    Hi regeu,
    The error message "RPC server is unavailable" may appear from time to time due to connection issues between your copy of RVS and our servers for various reasons that are not due to defects in the software:

    1. Slow/dropped Internet connection
    2. Server may be busy for a sec or two

    As you are seeing this intermittently, I suspect it is due to a busy server or congestion between your computer and our servers. If it starts happening frequently, let us know.

    The disk writing error is most likely due to a full cache or a cache without sufficient space to address the current changes. If this is happening frequently, try adjusting the maximum percentage of free space allowed for the cache and see if this provides relief.
