Using True Image 9, I did a complete backup of my partitioned hard drive to an external drive. Shortly after, my computer crashed. Good timing. After putting Windows back on, how do use my backup to get my system back to how it was? Do I transfer the backup using TI, then reinstall programs? Help...

did you make an emergency CD ? if so put the CD in your CD Drive and boot from there - follow instructions to restore from the image.

If you did not make an emergency CD just install Acronis and start the program and follow instructions to restore.

If all goes well you will not need to re-install anything.

If you didn't make a Boot Recovery CD, then you will need to install ATI again and then use it to make one. Then you can boot form that Recovery CD and use it to restore the backup image that you have made.

Good Idea to give your hard drives names because the letter assignments might not be the same when booting from CD. Giving them names makes it easier to tell which drive is which.

    Good luck,

My backup is on a USB external drive. When I boot to the recovery CD, the external drive does not show up.

    Hello Ogrish,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please note that as Long View and shieber said you can restore you system using Acronis True Image under Windows, using Acronis True Image Bootable CD or using Acronis Startup Recovery Manager. Please note that all the data stored on the restored partition will be replaced by the image data, so be careful and watch for non-backed-up data that you might need. You can find the detailed instructions on how to use Acronis True Image 10.0 Home in the respective User's Guide.

First of all, please make sure that Acronis True Image Bootable CD is created with the latest build (3854) of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home. To get access to updates you should first register your software.

If you already use the latest build and the issue still persists, please create Acronis Report and Linux system information (sysinfo.txt) as it is described in Acronis Help Post. Provide the exact vendor and model of the external hard drive you use. Then submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with a solution.

    Thank you.
