I am hoping to get some ideas that you would like Rollback Rx to include in any upcoming versions they might release. I am not saying they are releasing a new version anytime soon or even at all but just getting some ideas of good or bad things you would want if/when they do.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Thanks for the hello and hello to you too. I've actually been around but just not as much as before.

After this thread seems to die down I will submit all the answers to HDS in case they wish to use them at some point. I do like your suggestions too!

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,

It's been a long time! Hope everything is allright with you?
I also see that you finally come to your sense concerning PC Tools and drop them ;-)

Concerning Rollback Rx wish list :

    1) A french version of it.

    2) The possibility to make backup image with it to an external hard disk (with all the snaphsots saves). Plus a bootable recovery CD.

    3) The possibility to check for update/upgrade from within the program.

    4) The possibility to upgrade without losing our snapshots.

    5) The possibility to change the format of the date for (dd/mm/yyyy).

    6) A smart placement defragmenter for the files and programs on the disk (kind like Perfect Disk).

    That's it for the moment,

    Best regards,
    Atomas31

all seem good to me - but exporting or archiving snapshots is a must - losing them on upgrade is just not on.

Add the support for whole disk/partition encryption packages (PGP, Dekart Private Disk, etc.) which modify the MBR.

This is something that I wonder about. Rollback has encryption that requires a password before entering Windows but I am not sure what it uses. I might ask support about this. Wonder how close it comes to what you mention?

Yes it got to bad for me to support them. I liked the product if support was better I would still like it probably but als it is not :(

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hey Chris!

Do you know what's going on with the HDS forums (http://www.horizondatasys.com/forums/) o_O

Maybe a functionnal forums where people from HDS could answer our questions and suggestions will be good to add to your wishlist...

    Best regards,

Release 8 is in the works and scheduled for the end of this year.
With release 8 we will be able to update bugfixes without losing the snapshot structure.
It will also be possible to store snapshots as images on external disks.

What's your plan with our ideas, Chris?
I earned some free registrations with my ideas. :thumb:

Well, to give you some food for thoughts:
    - RAID support (wouldn't you agree, Peter2150?)
    - disk imaging support under win32.

Check this out: If your idea is accepted, we will offer you a free license for the updated version

No I just signed up as a member so I could see what you were talking about. I will try to find out and let you know though. I assume you mean the lack of responses from HDS staff?
I hope that HDS is aware and is OK with you posting this information here. I have been dealing with them since before Rollback Rx was first released as I helped with looking at some of their other projects. They had told me sometime back a date they hoped that the ability to store snapshots as images on external disks would be ready but said to not release the info. So I would hope it is ok that you have released the scheduled date.
As my second post which is really the third post in this thread says I am going to submit them to HDS when finished.
Glad to hear it. They are good people.

    Thanks,

    Chris

So you know I am still lurking in these threads.:D Absolutely good raid support. Also if they get to that point, they should be sure to test against Nvidia Raid. My machine uses a lot of Nvidia, and I wouldn't change it as they are the only ones with the features, but Nvidia drivers are a real pain in the bottom.

I have submitted a lot of idea before they got that new website will that count?

    @Chris,
You are right, my question was about why did the HDS forum dead? Never had any answer from HDS support and the link to it from their main website is no more since a long time now...

It doesn't hurt to mention your ideas and ask, Why not sending them an email?

@ Chris, I have mixed feelings about this thread, maybe it's just me.
But from my own experience I know that the company that releases this software compensates reasonable and valid ideas and contributions with generosity. I think that anyone here with ideas at least should be aware of that.

Thanks for making them aware. Maybe they should send an email before they make the post here so the idea is not used by someone else. Also the company you talk about is HDS or Eazsolutions only? I have not dealt with Eazsolutions.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Chris,

When you talk to support of HDS and I talk to support of eazSolution, we actually talk with the same person.
When I submit a suggestion and it's accepted for the next release, the suggestion will be implemented in both eazFix and Rollback RX.

These Forums are no longer monitored as HDS has concentrated on better help desk instead. These forums should be removed by end of week.

    Thanks,

Since no more entries have been received I have submitted the list plus my additions to HDS. I have included to them the usernames of those who mentioned the ideas listed. I did not take credit for any listed here. Here are the other items I did list.

    1. When optimizing or defragging snapshits in the Windows preboot
screen usually the progress bar will fill up to about 40-42 percent
then goto the next item. It should fill up to 100% before going to
the next item I would think.

    2. If you try to make a schedule for something I would like to
have the ability to edit the schedule instead of having to delete it
and then make a new one.

    3. When trying to make an hourly snapshot it will have a box where
you input a number and then show minutes next to it. Shouldn't it be
    hours instead of minutes?

    4. When you have data anchored so it moves to another snapshot
when restoring the box that pops up by the system clock (the one that
says Rollback rx is syncronizing data...) is to small
for the words or the words are to big. The words get cut off at the
    bottom.

    5. At lets say 1700 hrs I created a schedule that will backup at 0700. Upon the next reboot lets say 1715 Rollback will tell me I missed a scheduled
snapshot. Is it possible for Rollback to know I created the schedule
after 0700 and that I didn't miss it but rather it still is hours
    away?

    6. It is only wishing here but maybe make a bootable CD so the
archives can be restored without Windows being installed. (this one I have sent to them long ago before it was in this thread as well)

    7. When recovering files have a recover button and a cancel
button as well as right click. Currently I don't know how many times I hit 'ok'
button and have to repeat the process.

    8. Add recover files to the right click systray icon.

    9. Support for Windows server 2003 (this one was actually from
another user on pvsurfer on wilders

    10. A french version reported by atomas31 from wilders

    11. The possibility to check for update/upgrade from within the
    program also from atomas31

    12. The possibility to upgrade without losing our snapshots again
    atomas31.

    13. The possibility to change the format of the date for
    (dd/mm/yyyy)and again atomas31.

    14. A smart placement defragmenter for the files and programs on the
disk (kind like Perfect Disk) again atomas31

    15. Add the support for whole disk/partition encryption packages
(PGP, Dekart Private Disk, etc.) which modify the MBR this was
    requested by lu_chin at wilders.

    16. RAID support which was mentioned by wilbertnl from wilders
although Rollback seems to work on my RAID it is not really supported.

    17. As i mentioned to you before a different activation method. I
mean it's easy to do and maybe it'll be different when we can save
snapshots externally but right now with trying different backup
softwares and them not working we have to reactivate everytime.

    Thanks,

    Chris

WOW. I only asked for 3 improvements regarding FDISR and nobody wants them at Wilders. I guess it depends on which software is involved.

You are kind of right on that one but, more important, don't critizise FDISR or you will be crucified ;-)

It has already taken longer because the main developper of the snapshot backup module, of the next build, has left the company in the middle of the development...

    Thanks,
