I'm guessing it'll be ok since it appears from the description to be similar to Threatfire in some respects .I agree that it has some interesting features,I wonder if the final will be free or paid?

You are right. (7.2meg) Seems like junk. Has a seperate trojan and spyware scanners. A bunch of other fluff. Does not seem to have resident protection that I can tell, yet it runs in the system tray. Has a file shredder, process manager, and a few utilities like that. I like the Rising FW & AV programs, but not sure about this.

It is intended as a remote check up utility.

Blocks a few things (USB, IE code), but not much, It basically looks after your autostarts, checks whether you have things unpatched, advises some hardening of the system.

You can do a daily, weekly, monthly check up of config + autostarts and when pcdoctor notices something strange, it will be schecked 'in the cloud' (fancy word for remotely on the the Rising servers) and hopefully a de-infector will be downloaded and started.

Sort of combo of Comodo's assistance and PrevX CIS with a remote support option. For unexperienced users these sort of developments could be a blessing, for control freaks a nuissance

    Cheers

Find another download site instead of brothersoft, it's known for giving you a little something extra with your download.

If you're after a program to check various startups etc, use emsisoft's free program, HiJackFree. Use it on-demand to check say your ports, autoruns, running processes, to start/stop windows services etc.

Even has a portable version. http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/download/

Downloaded from brothersoft.com and installed last night.
The scanner never would fully update and the interface looks like a 7th grade class project.

    Uninstalled about an hour later;
    -NO Thanks !!!
The program looks and acts funky; I don't trust it and won't try it again.

Wiped the drive, formatted, re-installed XP.

    1. The update works fine here with Windows XP SP3 Pro.
    2. The interface in my opinion looks fine, do we want to compare this with Ultimate Defrag GUI ? Anyway is the GUI really important when we talk about free security software ?
    3. ''NO Thanks !!!'' - again, it's free software you don't have to pay for it.
    4. ''The program looks and acts funky; I don't trust it and won't try it again'' - Google Pack in China include Rising Software so you can trust Rising.
    5. ''Wiped the drive, formatted, re-installed XP'' - For only one piece of software ? o_O

that does seem a bit over cautious. Rising is a known company, not a virus.

    I understand all of that.
    -However-
No real problem for me to wipe/format/reinstall Windows. The entire process took less time than it took to audition PC Doctor, at least to the extent that it would let me. I like to be sure nothing remains from software that I consider to be questionable; that's why I always first install beta software on a test HDD.
    NOT WACKO- CAUTIOUS !

I run XP/SP2 (SP 3 offers nothing beneficial for me). The update would not complete for me. After three tries, I gave up. (Perhaps) I should have devoted more time to the process, but I didn't.

The GUI is important to me. Only a personal preference.

NO Thanks is exactly what I meant. Free software or not, it either is or is not a desirable addition. When something will not update, that is not acceptable.
To be sure, "funky" is an ambiguous term and my choice of adjective should have been more precise- such as ... hmmm...

I know Rising is considered as a reputable software vendor. I have used their AV and firewall on occasion and find both to be fairly good, but not near top of class.

I tried PC Doctor out of curiosity and didn't like it at all. I hope you find in it everything you could possibly want.
    End of story.

Yes, the malwares are on the other world side.
Good feels from me about RISING app's, and for this also.
PC Doctor is integrated in "Tools" tab from RISING AV 2009 than an AntiSpyware tool ("RISING Anti-Spyware"), and this BETA is the first vers in english language (earlier was only in chinese).

    Question,

The programs claims two interesting features :

    Trojan Behavior Detector & Blocker
Rising PC Doctor can detect the majority of Trojans and even great number of other malware upon startup before they can execute their malicious function. It will significantly increase your protection from cyber threats.

    Trojan Download Blocker
After successful infection, many viruses automatically start to download large numbers of Trojans and other malware. The Trojan blocking technology of Rising PC Doctor ensures that even an infected computer will not download any other viruses and stop the spreading of whole families of Trojans.

Could any of the (chinese speaking) members explain how this is done. I could not trigger it by using harmless Proof Of Concepts

    Cheers

Good tools also at "Expert Tools" tab:
    - System Repair
    - Empty Bin (temporary & cookies files)
    - Start Up Control
    - Process Manager
    - Connected Apps.
    - Service Manager
    - LSP Fix
    - File Shredder (earlier was in AV "tools" from 2008 vers.)

"Security Level" info provided also (good on-line database).

For me, at this moment: :thumb:
I will see the future developement, I guess great.

    @Kees1958,

Could they mean that IF it is installed on an infected PC, then no more crapware shall install? Or, IF an accidental infection occurs, then it shall be self-contained through some method of protection?
