Using the latest build for version 8 which has always worked great.
    New PC. (Dell Dim3100)
Image is created on an external hard drive no problem (as I always have)

On restore from within Windows, all is ok until the reboot when asked where to restore the image from, my choices do not include the external hard drive. (at all other times using the PC, including create image, the external hard drive is found)

Any suggestions? Thanks very much for any assistance.......L

Just in case this is related: i have always created/restored all the partitions. i noticed on this new PC that there is C (ntfs), then a Fat16 (pri) and Fat32(oxdb). Is it possible that backing up and restoring only C would cause the external hard drive to be recognised (far fetched but thought I'd ask)

If v8 works the same as v9, there are two choices when you boot from the recovery CD.

    1. is a "safe" mode, in which external USB/Firewire drives ordinarily will not be seen.

    2. a "full" windoze mode in which all drives should be seen.

Make the bootable Rescue TI cd and try the Restore using that. If that doesn't work, it must have something to do with the usb architecture that is in the new Dell and you will have to upgrade to the latest and greatest version and build.

Oh if that Dell has a wireless keyboard/mouse, that might be the reason too. TI is very picky when it comes to wireless devices and multiple usb devices including hubs.

Thanks for the information. I'm not using the 'safe' boot.

    Could you clarify please.

The only USB ports used are mouse and keyboard and printer.....so that must be ok..right?

When you mention newest version and build, you mean of TI right?

    Thanks folks.........L

btw: i will try a new TI boot CD and post results but I would still appreciate confirmation of the above.

    Hello lchewer,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please download and install Acronis True Image 9.0 trial version, create the bootable rescue media with the trial version, boot your computer from it and try to restore the image.

If the problem persists, please boot your computer from the Acronis True Image rescue disc and press F11 key when the selection screen appears. After you get the "Linux kernel command line" prompt, please modify it in the following way:

quiet acpi=off noapic, click on the OK button and choose "Full Version".

If that does not help, please create Acronis Report and Linux system information (sysinfo.txt) as it is described in Acronis Help Post.

Please create an account, then log in and submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

    Thank you.
