I am running an early version of Windows 10 on a Dell E7450 laptop. I have custom configured the system just as I need it and I am not interested in any newer version of Windows. I am getting a new laptop and it is too difficult to install the old version of W10 and all the apps and customize the system. I would like to restore a backup image from the old laptop to the new one. One problem I see is the drivers, but my guess is there are others. Is this feasible and if so, how? If I recall, Macrium has such a facility -- anybody familiar with it? Any other tools that can do it? Any advice/help will be appreciated. Thanx.
Restore your image on your new machine, then before BOOTing to it, use the reDeploy feature in the Rescue media. You may have Windows license ACTIVATION issues (the newer hardware may be very different, like the drivers you mentioned) as well as some application license issues. Be sure to copy down your Macrium REFLECT license, and to use the "Help/Remove license" feature from the old System so that it may be successfully activated on the reDeployed System.
Thanx. I installed a newer version of W10 on the old laptop when it was still free -- I dk if it changed the product key or not. There is no label on the bottom. I will When I use the cmd line it gives me one key; when I use regedit it gives me another key. What does this mean -- which is the valid key? The new laptop will come with W10 installed and I intend to install an older version I downloaded from MS for free a long time ago -- dk if it's Home or Pro. Will it prompt me for a key and if so which should I give?
