Restart after every update?

I have AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 and until recently I have been delighted with it. But recently I have had to reformat and reinstall, and now, after every update, I get a prompt saying, 'The application needs to be restarted. Restart it now?'

This is very frustrating when it updates several times a day, or when I am not at my pc. This means that unless I am right there to promptly restart it, I can never be fully protected. What I wonder is why I suddenly need to restart it after every update. Soon I will just take the application back for a refund if these updates continue to be as such irritating and less than automatic.
