Resident Shield Inactive

Hello

I am running a trial version of the AVG Anti-Spyware program and from day 1 I have not never gotten the Resident Shield to activate. From the start, whenever I've clicked on the link to activate the shield, I get an Error box that only says "Failed to activate resident shield." I saw the thread on the resident shield deactivating itself, except mine has never been active in the first place. I have 18 days now left on my trial and I would have liked to fully try out the software. I am running version 7.5.0.50 trial. Any suggestions on how I can get it to work so I can try it out?
