Sounds scary but small modular reactors (SMRs) appear to be the way of the future in terms of energy generation. Amazon and Google are looking into these too.

BTW, I assume solar power isn't enough to power these AI datacenters? I'm trying to figure out if I should still invest in First Solar, that's why I'm asking.

Sure, solar power could easily do it. The problem with solar power, however, is it would probably take several acres of solar panels to power a data center. And then of course, what happens at night or even a stormy or cloudy day? Solar energy sources don't normally directly power the devices they power alone. The energy is also used to charge huge huge storage capacitors and battery banks to keep the device powered when the sun goes away. This is fine for homes where enough solar panels could fit on the roof and the necessary batteries in the basement. But data centers are jammed from wall to wall with power hungry computers and then there's all the power hungry air conditioning needed to keep those computers cooled.

This is probably all possible in the wide open, and sunny spaces of the Arizona desert. But elsewhere?

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Not sure about the next 4 years but in the long run, I think investing in solar power (and other forms of alternative power) is still a good investment.

I live in Nebraska and just 2 months ago replaced my roof that was destroyed by hail. I went with upgraded "Class 4" "impact resistant" shingles. I inquired about hail proof shingles and was told there is no such thing. Even metal roofs can be dented and ripped off by extreme winds common during extreme weather. Do not pretend you can outwit or over power Mother Nature.

Anyway, if, like me you live in Tornado Alley, and you want to go with solar power, it would be a wise investment to do your homework and invest in solar panels that (1) are more durable and (2) support "hail-stowing" where the panels automatically tilt and/or swivel the fragile glass surfaces out of harm's way during hail storms.
"Hail-stowing" techniques are also used to prevent wind turbines from spinning out of control and flying apart during high winds.

Of course, if you have a small nuclear reactor in your basement, you are not going to worry about grapefruit size hail stones taking out your power.

BTW, it only added about $400 more to replace my roof with "Class 4" shingles over the cost of standard "Class 3" shingles. Considering the cost of my home owner's insurance immediately dropped $1000 per year, well worth it.

Been there, done that. A nuclear reactor is starting to sound good. :D

OK thanks for the advice. I also read that Meta signed a deal with a solar company a few days ago, see link.

And Trump said in his debate against Harris that he's actually a fan of solar energy and I'm guessing he will impose tariffs on Chinese solar equipment. So I assume certain solar stocks like First Solar should do just fine. But I'm not so sure about Enphase Energy and SolarEdge, lost quite a few dollars on them last year.

nuclear powered by uran has a half time form 4.5 billion years. this is the age of our solar system and half of uran will be existent, when our solar system will die in 4.5 billion years, mankind will die much more earlier.

musk is a complete idiot for me. currently all data center and more and more ai powered need 10 percent of power in the world, raising. nuclear power are thoughts from midday to 12 o'clock - means one dumb in a second.

it does not matter what china will build, their power hunger and its geographical terrain do not allow to build big solar plants. even gas from russia wont meet the needs. china build most e-cars right now, but are not able to power them.

btw, did the owners of the solar park thought about tornado alley?

sorry, building it without protection seems "critical" from my view.
but it should have benefit - damage vs profit+insurance = moaning on a high level.

LOL as if you or any other know for sure. They do not know how to predict the weather with high precision much less the age of our solar system :argh:
