My current scanner, Epson Perfection 1240U obtained in Dcember 2000, will be replaced. shortly, by an Epson Perfection V200.

I was thinking that I should uninstall the following software, as they are old, and likely will not work well, if at all, with the new scanner:

    Textbridge Pro 8
    Epson Smart Panel for Scanner
    Epson TWAIN 5

I expect that the latter two would be replaced anyway with new software provided with the new scanner.
OS is Windows 2000 Pro SP4.

    Suggestions?

I have used Paperport www.nuance.com since 1996 and would not want to be without it. I'm using version 11 now with windows XP. With Windows 2000 I used version 9 - if still available should be very cheap - and no activation problems. Apart from the scanning aspects the main benefit to me of Paperport is that it allows me to mix different file types in the same folder (outlook, word, PDF, excel, JPG) with many showing thumbnail contents.

    Presently, I scan with either:

    Microsoft Document Imaging
    Acrobat 5 (full product)

I ignore the software that came with the scanner.

I'm not sure how good will be the software that comes with the V200.
Scanner is due to arrive Thursday.

Main concern now is whether I should uninstall the software listed in the lead posting in this thread.

    Hi Howard

I would if you are no longer using. Just byte bunnies doing no good.

    Yes - remove

But forget about how you scan - that's the easy bit -- How are you storing ?

I fergot that I also have Omni Page Pro Office 14.
It might be affected if I remove the software.

I guess that I'll do a full backup, remove the software, then install the scanner and its software to see how things go.

If that screws up Omni Page Pro Office 14, then I'll restore the systemand see what happens if I add the new scanner and install the new software.

When scanning with mSFT Office Document Imaging, the only choices are .tif or .mdi.

When scanning with Omni Page Pro Office 14, only choice is .opd.

When scanning with Acrobat 5, the scan produces PDF, but allows me to save in a bunch of formats.

When using the Epson Smart Panel, seems to want to do OCR and save to particular apps. I do not recall how to use Epson Smart Panel to just get an image. It uses Textbridge 8 for OCR.

I guess I gotta wait and see what software comes with the scanner.
If I'm lucky, there will "documentation" included, at least on a CD-ROM.
