    Hi,

I bought a new Dell laptop with Windows 7 Professional. It comes with a 30 day trial version of McAfee. I don't want this and want to install Norton Internet Security instead, as I'm familiar and comfortable with it.

I plan to Un-install McAfee via the Add/Remove programs utility. Is getting rid of it more complicated than that? Is there anything to watch out for?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have run the internet security version several times this year (testing) and had no issues uninstalling.

After uninstalling McAfee normally use their removal tool:

Unfortunately the company founder John McAfee no longer works at his former company. The uninstaller I posted here has worked and should fully remove the software.

    What a nice guide :)

SecurityFan will be uninstalling on an unbroken system and your instructions will work great no doubt.
When I recently got a new computer, it had Norton and it was already running and had to be stopped before I got rid of it. Few OEM applications ran at startup, they had to be stopped as well to keep things quiet and safe.

I would think that somewhere early in your tutorial you could suggest how to shut off all unnecessary stuff from starting automatically, because at the end of your well described process, when there is no antimalware installed, all those things will want to run and they must not. This applies mostly to a non-new box, but can also apply to a new OEM-type computer as I experienced.

You could try and use my program, Antivirus Remover.

    links in my signature.

It downloads the Mcafee uninstaller and many other if need be.

    thanks

I'm not aware personally of an instances of where you need to stop other applications before uninstalling other antivirus software, and I've installed and uninstalled too many AVs to list over the years.
