I never thought about this subject too much. In Europe you can call to other countries in the EU without any extra cost, I guess this is what they call roaming. But when you go overseas it's a different story of course, didn't know you could buy a SIM just for this, will look into this.
Discovered this and eSims earlier this year when I had to travel to the US. Worked like a charm for under $5.
Going to Spain in 3 weeks and going to buy an eSim, my other trips I didn't get one the dummy that I am but this time I plan to use my phone a lot for navigation. Their pretty cheap.
