register watcher

    Newbie q.
    I'm looking for a program that keeps an eye on the register and reports/prevents any alternations to it.
    And maybe makes a backup of the register? (I know windows can do this).
    Is there such a thing?

    Winpatrol and regmon look like the best candidates.

    One note: If you are generally logged in using anything less than administrative privleges account, neither regmon (sysinternals) or regprot (DiamondCS) will work.

    Since I only log in as administrator to make system changes, but I wish to monitor the registry all the time (while logged in as a "power user") I use SSM. It seems to be the only registry monitoring app that works at this level.

    If I am incorrect, please let me know!
