Note that there is no change in functionality with this build (apart from the data gathering.) https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva/version-history
thats all what recuva can do - if the file space is not overwritten meanwhile. for real recovering of files in emergency cases i wont use this [...] tool. emergency recovery is done with a boot-stick, boot-cd/dvd and an immediately hard reset to avoid windows overwriting files. if the partition is not overwritten or just lost, then i would recommend GetDataBack, or Ontrack Software (both no freeware) - specialists to recover anything if possible, even lost partitions. if you dont dare about command line -> testdisk (freeware) from a bootable medium.
Note that there has been no change whatsoever in function or abilities to recover files in this version, it is purely a change to ''provide a smoother license delivery experience in future'' I suggest people read the version history page for the last few months. https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva/version-history
This program is been an endurance keeper. It finds deleted or recoverables and also a good indicator your favorite wiper is doing it's job as expected. That is on an active windows system. As above mentions if you want to go offline and scrub there are programs that probe and sweep an offline/disconnected drive well.
