I refer to the paid versions of Bitdefender Anti-Virus.

    1. What kind of impact does it have on the system performance? Is it light as the company claims? Is it prone to surges of high CPU usage that make it hard to use the computer till they subside?

    2. Does it allow the user to disable "PUP" detection?

    3. In the case of false positive detections, can you restore well from quarantine or is the targeted program gone, period?

    Hello,
I am not a security expert, but I bought Bitdefender Anti-virus 2018 yesterday early morning.
I found it to be a pain in the butt to use and work with . This morning, it told me I had no internet connection and could not install a windows update that was needed.
Also all scans custom or otherwise would not scan for rootkits .
I downloaded the Bitdefender uninstall tool , ran it and contacted customer support canceling my account and asked for a refund .
    My pc
    64 bit windows home .

USA still the best. But barely.
I like BDIS2018 but would not recommend for the specs listed. If Panda works I'd consider keeping it.

    1. Mine experience, and those of several other friends/colleagues, is that Bitdefender is quite cumbersome, making relatively new PC's inexplicably slow even on simple stuff like opening menu of a random software (office, browser, etc). All symptoms were remedied when Bitdefender was uninstalled. Maybe this is something going on with only certain hardware/software combinations (as Bitdefender has many satisfied users), but with ancient hardware like yours, I'd rather go with something else. Anything else, really.

    3. You can restore files from quarantine, and they are listed in exclusions afterward. Yet inexplicably on every next scan Bitdefender will flag and delete those same excluded files again. This is very recent experience with certain „PUP“ I had to deal with recently, same as last year (so nothing new here).

that PC needs a light AV
    ESET would be perfect
or get an anti-exe with VT score, aka Voodooshield

Interesting reading thus far. Wonder what it would be like on a Mac?

I would just try the trial on that achine. If you don't run into any problems in 30 days and like it then keep it.

Also light is quite subjective. If the security solution is no slowing down you computer then it's light.
