Prevx 3 already autoupdated previously. Now it just auto-updates to Prevx 4, which is what WSA was made of. The auto-update functionality has been there for ages, just this update, the look changes.

IIRC, all Prevx 3 licenses will become WSA AV specifically.

No: my PrevX does not auto-update. Never has.

Are you suggesting that the WSA AV ( maybe ) is just rebranding?.
    I think not.

I believe that technically this is a new installation of new software: new configs, new options, new branding, new owner, possibly different functionality, new hooks?, different licensing.
    Conflicts with other security apps?

Heh: new prods to update no doubt !

Haven't needed it as such, so haven't looked at it much.
    Will be doing so now.

This should not be an automatic process.
Should be clean uninstall and clean install.

PS: What is online account management ?

The upgrade of P3 to WSA is automatic - P3's autoupdater will check in and receive WSA as the update, then WSA will fully uninstall P3, import and convert its license key, and reapply it to WSA while enabling protection and performing the learning scan. You can technically disable auto-updates in P3 to prevent it from happening automatically, but over the course of the next few months, we will be closing down P3's backend and moving all users over to WSA, which provides far superior protection and a superset of functionality.

WSA is compatible with more AVs than P3 and is being actively maintained/updated, whereas P3 hasn't had a software release in almost three years.

Each license key is transitioned independently, but a single, multi-PC license will be given the same number of seats/days as your previous license. You will receive a WSA AV license for any P3 license, which includes all of the SafeOnline functionality (now Identity Shield) and a number of additional shields for added protection.

Online account management allows you to manage PCs centrally, similar to MyPrevx (but now called MyWebroot and with considerably more functionality).

I appreciate the concern with not wanting software to install new software, but the transition is overdue at this point and we need to move users onto a common, mutually beneficial platform where we can provide the best protection and stability.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    @PH
    Thanks.
So I have to have auto updater on ? ( which I dont )

Ya, aware of that: auto updates not busy here recently ! Just shows: great tool PX: seems to still be working.

Will free PX versions be updated to WSA trial?
The WSA trial will expire, as opposed to PrevX which has not.?

    Lovely.
Will you/Can you absolutely guarantee that this web based uninstall/install will not in any way interfere with my set-ups?

ADD: All traces of PrevX gone ?

    Is this some license issue?
Why not allow us to do new install with Webroot license.?

    Thx

PS: just out of interest: how many luddites still on PrevX ?? :D

Yes, or you can update manually by just running any build of WSA over your P3 install. But note that the longer you wait, the closer you will get to us turning off the services (which doesn't have a set end date yet, but we're strongly encouraging users to remain "in step" with the auto-updates).

At the moment, you will receive a full trial of all of WSA's functionality for 30 days for the P3 trial versions.

There are no guarantees in software - no one can ever absolutely guarantee anything :D However, all of the compatibility logic in P3 is in WSA, including much, much more, and we've had zero complaints of incompatibilities.

Yes, P3 will be fully removed.

I'm not sure to what this is referring, but P3 can't be installed with a Webroot license.

I don't have exact numbers off-hand, but the migration is being spread across all of the different partners/builds/etc. so phase in the userbase so as to not create any problems upfront. You may not see the auto-update published for some time still as it is dependent upon where you first received your P3 installation and your license key.

    Hope that helps :)

    Joe,
I have approx 8 months left before my P3 license expires. This license is not installed or in use as I got fed up with having to use out of date browsers to be able to see the SOL toolbar icon and I had the WSA beta to use instead. I first asked for the P3 license to be converted to a WSA one when I had some 500 days left on the P3 one but was told several times that it was not possible to convert it o_O
How will this license be upgraded to WSA if it is not installed and in use?

You can use your P3 license on a fresh install of WSA now, and it will convert your license, returning a WSA keycode (which it will display on-screen for you to save to ensure you have the new keycode moving forward).

Yes, I did this earlier on a laptop with SafeOnline license active, and it just updated like a dream (to WSA-AV), and seemed to remove all traces of P3 install in the process...very nice, thanks :thumb:

    Pinging PrevX Help:

    OK: I'm in :D
Have just purchased a good deal for 5 licenses for 2 years !
( Heh: webroot lives !!, you can all eat tonight LOL)

I'll do the uninstall of PrevX and install WSA AV myself.

Is there still a good removal tool for PrevX ?
( I recall various "issues" in the past And dont feel like doing a manual clean up if possible )

    OR

As above, just run the WSA Av install ??

    Regards.

Since you've purchased a separate license for WSA, I suggest uninstalling P3 and then rebooting the system, then install WSA with your new license. WSA will clean up any missed P3 traces on-install (even if P3 isn't actively installed) so you should be good to go after that :)

    OK: so .....
    Moving slowly here :cautious:

Uninstalled PrevX: tricky..abit... always a couple of reg entries left behind.
Installed WSA: all good: ...start exploring.

    Initial usability score: 4/10.
First impression :"shaking hands" ...erm a little off putting.

No way a "novice" would feel at ease here.
GUI: way to complex: Local + Web, why ?... presumably to funnel all users into same channel?
I am reasonably good at config'ing, but this was tricky: "Save all" ....then
    : WOT ??

OK: back to web >>> fiddle fiddle...

I cant see all the same user config settings settings in the web console !!

If I change some settings locally, I might have them overwritten by some setting I have made in the console, BUT, I have no way to tell from the console which user config settings will be changed...

OH:... I get it ... "User Config" o_O
That stops the web console reset message ... I think.

    Nice roundabout there !!

AFAICS: nothing in the Help Link about Web Console ??

Wwaayy too complicated, keeping it simple is hard eh

    Then >>

Another user/local window for "core settings": which is which:
    Console or local configs !!
Where does that fit in !!

    I'll muddle through.
I think it should be better.

To me that capture thing just looks silly. :(
Is that seriously the best validation tool you've got ?

Text strip across the lower margin of the app window ?? :
I don't really care about WSA telling me how frugal it is across the bottom of the window. Looks cluttered: no help: no functionality.
    Can I stop that?

Now Ive seen that counter racing along: what good is it to me ??
When will it get too big for the window !!
    Kind of odd ..
    CAn I stop that?
If PrevX Help says it's some important thing .. OK:
what exactly do you need to know about the 5 trillion things my computer has done in the last 4 hours ??

What the hell are you doing with all those 'bits' coming from all over the Web ?? :shifty:

Where is the "Suspend Protection for xx minutes "" option from the Sys Tray.
Useful doing that when installing any new web facing apps or other installs.
Also useful If get called away in the middle of some task: AUTO RESTART.

IMHO gui design and graphics not a 'patch' on PrevX ... LOL, might have get used to it.

I'm sure you don't really need my critique Heh.
    Hopefully I'll settle in.
Wait and see how we go.

    Regards

The key is that you don't have to configure or do anything within the product - all of the settings screens encourage you to not change anything.

The console should only be used on multi-PC deployments where you need to centrally manage configuration options. There might be a case where P3-migrated licenses are incorrectly registered as having a console behind them which could be causing this - we're investigating now (which would explain your confusion here).

User Config means the user can manage their own configuration. Otherwise, the console uses a more summarized view of configuration options to make it easier to control, rather than the 100+ granular options which are primarily geared towards Business users.

The "Help" link along the side includes web console help: https://my.webrootanywhere.com/gethelp.aspx

You're being confused because of the distinction between the web console and the local configuration options - they are completely separate and don't work together. You either manage it from the cloud, or you manage it locally.

The most secure is not always the best looking - you can disable it under Access Control if you prefer.

This was a very highly requested feature - it can't be disabled but doesn't require any additional resources to render.

See this post with a bit more information: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=2203650&postcount=6

Not sure what you mean with that.

WSA removes that feature as it caused a massive amount of problems with Prevx. You should leave WSA installed and active when installing applications so that it can track them accurately and whitelist them - otherwise you could end up with some severe system degradation.

Let me know if you find anything else :)

IMO, last thing you should do is to shutdown WSA while installing software unless is a rare or exotic tool you don't expect in PCs. Not safe security wise and will limit drastically the WSA possibility of remediation ex-post via the WSA journaling (i.e. revert all changes to the system). It will just take time to adapt to a different way of securing the system but you will get there :thumb:

    @Webroot Help !! :)

    I'm baackk ;)

    All good since last post.
Forgotten what a prickly little devil PrevX can be to uninstall. :ouch:

Word to the wise: first "Shutdown" ...not the same as "turn off monitoring" :ouch:

    Now:
How does this console mgt option work?
I have done installs on my networked boxes here..
    Simple end user license.

When I go to change some simple settings re scanner options, I keep getting the message as per attachment below.
    Is that meant to happen?
I'm not sure exactly what that message means ?

Have I been given some corporate license ?

I really think we should be able to have some local control over some settings without going through a web layer ??
One size may not fit all?

I have registered One of the 5 networked desktop/laptops here ( to stop the annoying message box ) and the name in the console is the network id: thats ok, but how can I change the label/name in the console for ease of use, such as: "Mummy's desktop", "Boy's Laptop" etc for ease of reference...

CAn I "Unregister" that installation ?

If I change my network: what happens to console settings??

    Next:
How do I know what WSA is scanning?
Does it automatically scan my NAS drives..all 4 of them, they are pretty big. ??
Will it auto scan other attached HD ?
( I see the NAS drives in the custom scan option: I am assuming WSA does not auto scan attached HD or NAS HD )

Does WSA auto scan all partitions on primary drive and other internal drives ??

    Regards

Settings can be controlled either by the console or locally, but not both (otherwise they end up overwriting each other constantly). You'll want to change your console settings to User Configuration which will allow you to manage it locally again.

I don't think you can rename PCs within the web console but I'll ask internally.

Yes, you can remove a PC from the console.

They will continue working without a problem - it is tied to the PC, not the network connection.

WSA is similar to Prevx in that it scans for threats which could affect your system. It won't scan every file on every external drive, but if something is registered to load or can pose a risk, it will scan it. You can use the right click scanner or Custom Scan within WSA to specifically scan additional areas if you wish.

To change a PC name, simply click on the PC you wish to change, then click the (Edit) button alongside the displayed name.

If the Edit link isn't available, check you have admin permissions for the PC Security console by clicking your email address in the top right, and selecting "account settings" :)

    Hello,

I get the same message as Longboard. I have it set to User Configuration in the Web Console but anytime I save my settings I get the web console managed message. The settings stick and never change (even after a scan) but I always get the warning message...

I'm not sure it has anything to do with the Console Message that Kent is mentioning as I never had the message it was not saving the settings on a clean reinstall of WSA for me.

Although for what it's worth, we've found the console issue and will have that fixed in the next build as well :)
