We have just released a new beta version of our driver to our testers which hopefully will fix issues some people have seen happening since their upgrade to version 1.300 .

A lot of people have emailed me asking about the stability of the next driver so I just wanted to tell everyone that some issues in the driver were identified as causing issues, and have been corrected. Hopefully some of the beta testers will post in here over the weekend with their results of the driver, but only if it is good news. ;)

These issues only affected Windows XP users, so if you are not running XP you shouldn't be concerned with this. :)

Can you tell us what improvements/additions/fixes you are "targeting" for the next version release...just a brief summary? ;)

Just to clarify, I had the sudden-reboot issue even with PG 1.200 installed. (Just mentioning it in case you thought that a 1.200 -> 1.300 change was solely at fault.)

    Hi All

Although not an official beta tester, I have been working with Jason on this as 1.3 was a real problem on my machine.

Even on 1.2 I couldn't run Global Hooks. It would crash the machine. Also couldn't run Block Services, because AOL couldn't get on line. But with the two basic protections 1.2 was very stable. My fear was Abtrusion Protector, and/or GoBack were the problem.

With 1.3 the AOL problem with services was fixed but all else was worse. I would reboot, and crash, and if rebooting was okay, a power off, power on sequence was good for a crash. Global Hooks, invited immediate crashes on startup. Even with just the two basic protections on, I would crash out of things when I wasn't even doing anything. Eventually disabled AP and Goback, to no avail. Finally even disabled Protection in 1.3 and it still was unstable. Note that I hadn't even added things like zone alarm, and AP to PG to protect. To run at all I had to go back to 1.2

I recant the above just to give an idea of what I was facing. Jason provided me with a beta driver yesterday morning that has been solid. Got the latest and final one this morning and it also seems solid. I now have all 4 protections on, and have added everything I want to protect into PG.

    This really looks good.

    Pete

    Pete,

Were these failures because of hyperthreading on your machine?...just curious.

Hi siliconman01 Hyperthreading is one of the issues that Jason has addressed in the latest betas :)

I am sure Peter will answer for his own machine. ;)

No. Turning off hyperthreading was one of the first things I tried. Had no effect. You should see the log I sent to Jason. Had 44 entries detailing the things I tried, and the conditions under which I crashed. Encluding things like the HT, changing power management setting in the bios. Disabled stuff one program at a time. Turns out none of it mattered. This new beta so far is working great on the machine.

One thing I am going to try later since Jason did say was one of the changes relates to detecting dual processors is I am going to turn of HT and see how it runs. Thats an after work effort.

Aw shucks. I am jealous. Mine still says 1.3 Jason only sent me the driver itself. Actually just tickled to have all of 1.3's features working, minus all the crashes.

Actually tested with apt and it is working nicely. Yea DCS

Thanks Pilli. Part of it just pure stubborn. I wanted PG to work on my machine. I used to work for a fortune 500 company, which wrote its own software. Support was on a kin to some of the major vendors like Symantec. o_O It is a pleasure to work with Jason and DCS, and that makes it a fun challenge. :D

With a statement like that Peter.....have another karma cookie mate ;).

I believe that product support only comes second to the actual product/software itself, and this is where DCS _excels_ IMHO.

    Best regards,
    Jade

    Hi Nameless

Hopefully no one has ignored you. I suspect this new version that is in beta testing this weekend will fix your problems. While many did relate to 1.3 vs 1.2 I never got parts of 1.2 to work. And it all related to crashing. They all seemed to have been fixed. My suggestion is hang in there and when DCS releases the beta as I guess 1.32 give it a shot. Odds favor your problems will go away also.

    Pete

OK PPL, If you want to carry on this discussion about DCS support, I would suggest that you start another thread as we would like to stay on topic.

    Not you Peter :)

Enough said - Thanks. Pilli :)

*phew* I thought i was alone, XP was crashing every time i rebooted until i disabled PG 1.3, then it went away, was wondering if I didn't have enough RAM to run my server programs, glad that it is an issue that is being worked on.

Actually I should of mentioned, this will even fix issues with people having random bluescreens/resets from PG v1.200 and up. So in regards to your question Nameless, hopefully it will resolve your problem(s) also.

Since Jason told me that one of the issues was the way XP handled things was slightly different with single vs dual processors (HT is seen as a dual processor), and that the latest driver detect which setup applied, my final test was to run both with HT on as well as off. No problems seen in either mode. Lookin Good!!! :D

    Hi reneighd

Hang in there. Assuming everyone else testing is having the same results as I am, I would guess(and I am guessing) you won't have long to wait.

I'm guessing the plan is to release it Monday, February 23. But of course if problems arise, that could be pushed back. This guess is based on Jason's wording in the original post, and what they did for PG 1.200 recently.

Oh gee, I hope Alan doesn't scold me for being off-topic.
