My GeForce 8600 had an option wherein I could manually crop my active desktop from 16:9 to 4:3 ratio. This is useful for games that were not designed for widescreen and so no matter what resolution they're set at, the picture is stretched on my widescreen monitor, such as Max Payne.

I recently got a Radeon 6850, and I am looking for the same sort of option so I don't have to play stretched games. Does anyone know if such an option exists? I can't seem to find anything like that.

Try changing the resolution to 1024x768 or 800x600. Both are 4:3.

See this link here. On the link scroll down to section "Image scaling" under the "Monitor/Digital Panel Properties". Hopefully this will help.
