    Hello to all --

I have the Port Explorer and now the TDS-3 Professional. I have worked long and hard to find the right combination of firewall, anti-virus, and now trojan-scan to work with a solid port scanner, all of which I now have.

About TDS-3: It is a little overwhelming for someone like me who is learning about the ins and outs of trojan scans. Would anyone have suggestions on settings--default settings I think you call them--to work with? How do I get them and where? Does this software run stealth in the background live as I am online? How would I set it up out of the box so to speak to gain maximum security while online?

My thanks to all of you for a fine product and the way you present and market it.

    Hi OUTLAW52 and welcome
Make sure Execution Protection is installed.
The way I use TDS, you can see in the pictures.

    Hello, Dolph:

Your assistance has been very helpful.

Am I correct to assume this software runs in the background while I am online? In other words, say I download something and it is infected with a trojan, or someone tries to case my ports and tries to send me one however they do it will the software intercept and block it?

Thanks for your response. I am learning a great deal tonight to say the least.

    Regards,

    OUTLAW

Well I'm afraid it is not that simple, because TDS doesn't scan in the background.
Execution Protection will prevent a trojan from loading into memory and executing, but you still can download it.

    Hello OUTLAW52 and welcome here!
FanJ created a reference for quick basis configuration in the stickys of this forum like this one http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=2871

Different from Dollefie i have all scan options checked, but that is personal choice.
With a press of the button you scan your system.
You can either configure your download program to scan automatically after downloading a file with the scanner you point it to, including TDS, or you load all your downloads in one folder which you scan as a whole or you manually scan the file with TDS (rightclick on it)

The coming TDS-4 products will have resident scanning and more.

Your firewall keeps out the nasties, PE shows you intrusions and suspicious connections and which file is responsible for it, you can examen, spy, kill it; i use a lot TDS and PE together to look deeper.
